One of the standout features of this family bathroom transformation is the bespoke vanity, expertly crafted to be a showstopper. Rather than a traditional vanity, it resembles a beautiful piece of furniture, making it the focal point of the room. To maintain the modern yet traditional aesthetic, classic lighting fixtures with an antique brass finish were incorporated, adding a touch
of timeless charm.

The tapware, all from Faucet Strommen in Discovery Bronze, complements the earthy tones of the space, resembling weathered bronze. The design team eliminated the nib wall in the shower to give the bathroom a more open and spacious feel, with the centrepiece being a stunning freestanding stone bath positioned beneath a beautiful arched window.

To tie everything together, a monochrome palette with Carrara marble hexagon tiles was employed, creating a sense of unity and sophistication. A marble capping tile was added to beautifully finish off the porcelain tiles, completing the luxurious look. The final touch included L&M Home Decor accents, adding a layer of refinement and functionality to the space. There were several design considerations; among them was the need for a beautiful freestanding bathtub, which is positioned against a window. With natural light streaming through, there is a connection to the outdoors and the views beyond. The freestanding bath is the ultimate statement piece in this bathroom, with the insert nearby providing space to store bathroom products.

The completed project is a far cry from the previous bathroom design, which lacked vitality. The inclusion of new fittings and fixtures against a crisp-white backdrop has now created a sophisticated space. Specialising in architectural joinery, Seavern ensured that the storage was seamless and functional with a high-end finish. Plenty of storage was integrated through the clever use of space, including a brand-new butler’s pantry to give the family extra prep room and storage. While the striking oversized island benchtop exudes luxury, it was also designed to introduce extra seating and functionality for entertaining. Polished to perfection, the striking solid American oak island extension is a bold statement that adds warmth and texture. The considered selection of high-end appliances add to the contemporary feel of the space while providing a professional cooking experience.

Aesthetic appeal was very high on the homeowners’ wish list for their new culinary haven. Skilled joiners on the project, Seavern brought the space to life with custom wall panelling that was used to create flow throughout the kitchen, resulting in a bespoke finish. In addition, an unsightly electrical box was cleverly hidden by the panelling, adding to the overall sense of seamlessness in the space.

A testament to the artisanal efforts of skilled joiners, this new and improved ‘heart of the home’ beautifully captures the style of the homeowners, who now cherish the time they spend in this area with family and friends.

Thanks to the team from Cantilever Interiors, this was achieved. Convenience was a priority for the couple. The kitchen was 23 years older than when they first moved into the home — but so were Martin and Jen. With the previous kitchen design proving limited, access was becoming more of a challenge. This was taken into consideration by Cantilever; higher cabinetry was easier to access and the induction cooktop is simple to operate.

The downdraft is an absolute dream to clean when compared to the bulkier old-style rangehood. Integrated timber shelving offers an opportunity for Jen to display her collection of mid-century teapots and teacups, which also allows the homely theme to carry through, ensuring the kitchen feels like a continuation of the existing space.

The terrazzo benchtop does a similar job. Not only does it look incredible and reflect the couple’s artistic bent, but it mirrors the existing terrazzo that was poured when they first put the bathroom floor in — terrazzo that is still on display today.

The Cantilever team was very sensitive to the couple’s needs when it came to matching the style of the home with the new kitchen. Working within the existing footprint also meant there were sustainable and financial benefits to this choice, with the resulting space offering added convenience as well as stunning good looks.

The one-storey home, which is part of the Stuart Everitt (SE) Architectural Design Portfolio, has a relaxed flow and an intelligent design that is evident from the moment you enter the home through the front door. “The layout of the Anchorage makes it a really liveable choice for families at any stage thanks to the combination of personal spaces for retreat and a choice of inviting communal spaces in which everyone can come together,” says Nathan Thurston, McDonald Jones Homes’ marketing manager.

“Three bedrooms, a large bathroom and a children’s activity room with study nook form a separate wing to the expansive master suite, making it ideal for teenagers looking for a space to call their own or for young kids needing room to play. The master suite is across the hall, allowing parents privacy and a sense of seclusion, while at the same time being convenient for those with younger children. There is also a separate guest suite for visitors (the fifth bedroom), so it’s great for families who love having friends and family to stay.”At the back of the home the airy and spacious family hub makes everyday living a breeze. Large doors open to the alfresco, inviting the outside in and giving the home a relaxed, holiday feel. Add to this a large home theatre and it is clear that the Anchorage is the perfect fit for modern families and the way they like to live.

In designing this flexible home, McDonald Jones had a very clear vision in mind. Explains Nathan, “We wanted to add a larger home to the SE range because we saw a need for a design that retained all the special elements of Stuart’s homes but offered more space for larger families as well as a host of added elements. These extras include features like the walk-through butler’s pantry, a large master suite with a private courtyard, a guest room with its own bathroom, an airy foyer and a spacious grand room featuring an open-plan gourmet kitchen along with relaxed living and dining areas, which all effortlessly open to a spacious alfresco. Also, the Anchorage was cleverly designed to suit more traditional deeper lots, as opposed to wider blocks of land.”

Only the finest materials were used, from the Hermitage Prestige Oak (Artist Grey Oak) timber flooring to the Caesarstone (Intense White 6011) benchtops, and the interior design has a sophisticated coastal theme in keeping with the bright and airy layout.

“Natural textures and a relaxing colour palette feature, with inspiration drawn from the colours of the ocean, sand and sky, making this a home that whispers ‘seaside’ every day of the year,” says Nathan. “The tone is set by the abundant light that fills this home. Enhanced by neutral timber tones on joinery as well as on the floor in certain areas, the colour palette consists of muted sea greens, layers of cream, beige and sand, and crisp whites.”

As to the tiling, this has been kept simple in soft greys and whites, with a feature marble tile added for visual interest. “Featuring a colour palette similar to the home’s interior, coastal luxury is reflected on the exterior through the use of soft whites and creams, muted grey and sea mist,” continues Nathan. “The mix of timber, render and Colorbond adds texture and ‘earths’ the home.”

This flexible home, which is on display in The Bower estate in Medowie, NSW, is a flexible home that focuses on family connection. It’s a home in which people can put down roots and build memories — and it’s a home that always elicits a smile and a sense of achievement each time you pull up in the driveway.
