This Mosman kitchen housed a 20-year-old interior defined by laminate surfaces, ageing appliances and an inefficient workflow. The redesign rethinks the room from the inside out, prioritising clarity, function and restraint. Reflecting a space that doesn’t clamour for attention, yet holds it effortlessly, there is now a quiet confidence to this newly conceptualised zone.
Working within the existing footprint, the new galley layout sharpens usability while maintaining a refined, architectural presence. Storage has been carefully considered and seamlessly integrated, allowing the kitchen to perform at a high level without visual noise. Electronic lift-up overhead cabinetry, pull-out shelving, a dedicated spice drawer and integrated bin system all contribute to a highly ergonomic environment tailored to everyday use.
Materiality plays a pivotal but measured role. Sintered stone benchtops and splashbacks in Smartstone Bellini Bianco introduce durability and cohesion while maintaining a soft, luxurious tone. The custom curved rangehood becomes a defining gesture — a sculptural counterpoint that gently offsets the linearity of the galley form.
Colour is used with intent. A bold red feature wall anchors the space and provides a vibrant backdrop for the owner’s collection of Indigenous artworks, which the design deliberately allows to take centre stage. The kitchen itself recedes, acting as a calm frame for living.
The result is a space that balances discipline with warmth and is highly resolved in function yet generous in spirit.
