For a hardworking couple in the health sector, creating a calming, restorative sanctuary at home was paramount.
Their outdated kitchen, described as dark and depressing, lacked both storage and flow, leaving little joy in cooking or entertaining. With Avid Interior Design leading the transformation, the goal was to establish a lighter, more welcoming kitchen that echoed nature while connecting seamlessly with the rest of the home.
One of the most significant decisions was the removal of the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room. Previously an external wall, it disrupted the sense of connection and blocked natural light. By adjusting the budget to include structural changes, the design team introduced an engineered support beam that opened the kitchen to the dining zone. The result is a light-filled, social space anchored by a generous island bench that surprised the clients, who never thought such an inclusion would be possible within their budget.
The island now provides a central hub for family life, offering flexible seating for quick breakfasts, casual interactions and family pizza nights. Storage has been carefully considered throughout, from concealed cabinetry at the rear of the island to blind corner solutions and layered drawers. Functionality has been elevated without sacrificing aesthetics, ensuring the kitchen is as hardworking as it is beautiful.
Inspired by the clients’ eucalyptus artwork, a soft, nature-led palette was developed. Shaker-style cabinetry in a sophisticated two-tone scheme brings timeless appeal, while a subtle earthy green complements textured gloss-white tiles. Light timber-look flooring adds warmth, creating a refined base for the space. Brushed-gold tapware and fittings provide just the right amount of elevation, introducing a touch of understated luxury, complemented by Dorset Touch handles in brushed brass.
YDL Vene Rose engineered stone benchtops with a lightly veined finish bring durability and a sense of continuity, while ensuring the design holds future market appeal. These design decisions also flow into the laundry and bathroom, providing cohesion across the renovation.
The result is a transformation that goes far beyond cabinetry and finishes. By blending thoughtful storage solutions with a tranquil, natural palette, Avid Interior Design has delivered a space that not only meets the brief, but exceeds it, with the clients describing it as “coming home to a health retreat every day”.
