Defining Design

You’d never guess it to look at this stunning kitchen, but it began with a very different vision.

The owners’ initial intention was to create an open-plan space but, after weighing the pros and cons of removing load-bearing walls, they opted, in consultation with designers John and Helle Olsen of Collaroy Kitchen Centre, to work with the home’s existing layout. The spectacular results confirm the enduring appeal of distinct kitchen areas, and the bright, spacious feel is a testament to the design team’s years of experience.

With four doorways to work around, the layout offered its challenges, but each surface has been expertly adapted to make the most of the available space in both the cooking zone and the adjoining laundry area.

Dark cabinetry in AbsoluteMatte by Laminex, accommodates the owners’ request for black. Thoughtful internal storage caters to their desire for customisation, with everything from spices to doggie treats and tea towels tucked away in dedicated drawers and storage cavities.

American walnut timber counters, a dramatic Bruno Perla marble splashback and detailed Buster + Punch handles add texture and personality, while crisp white walls, a large window and a deliberate gap left between the cabinetry and ceiling lighten the overall feel of the room.

High-end appliances, a matt black Blanco sink, a Vola mixer, and cleverly discreet power points complete the sleek functionality of the zone, which is now the hub of this elegant
family home.
