Hilary Ryan Design has transformed an oversized and somewhat unbalanced kitchen into a carefully considered space that celebrates both practicality and beauty.
By moving the kitchen forward, the layout now embraces sweeping views, while the introduction of a generous butler’s pantry adds depth and purpose to the overall design.
The pantry is more than a functional addition. Hidden behind a seamless wingline door that mirrors the cabinetry, it offers an element of surprise while balancing the joinery lines. Inside, it functions as a full-sized kitchen, complete with a second sink and dishwasher, making it ideal for food preparation and discreet clean-up. Warm timber shelving, a stone splashback and timber accents ensure it is as inviting as the main space, while also serving as a private retreat where snacks can be prepared out of sight.
In the main kitchen, drama is achieved through indigo-toned joinery enriched with timber detailing. This deep palette provides the perfect contrast to the striking marble benchtop and splashback, with custom marble handles reinforcing the commitment to detail. The combination of natural stone and rich colour grounds the design in timeless sophistication.
Adding warmth and softness, the owners selected a bespoke light fitting in dulcet gold tones. The metallic accents are echoed in the tapware, giving the room a subtle glow that elevates the mood from functional to elegant. Bar stools were chosen in complementary darker hues, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with the surrounding joinery rather than distract from it.
The continuity of timber elements is another key thread, with warm timber tones introduced on pantry doors, joinery internals and throughout the butler’s pantry. These touches connect beautifully with the limewashed timber flooring, ensuring the kitchen retains a natural, organic sensibility.
The overall palette balances trend and timelessness, with bold choices that remain classic enough to last a lifetime. The result is a kitchen that feels both generous and proportioned, with
a strong design narrative that enhances its dress-circle setting. This is a home where function is effortlessly matched by elegance, and every detail has been thoughtfully crafted.
