This vintage villa kitchen has been redesigned with 21st century urban chic elements
“Located in Melbourne’s leafy east, this classic, symmetrical Victorian villa has been redesigned to combine vintage style with 21st century urban chic. The renovations were extensive, particularly those to the back end where the kitchen, dining and living areas are located, and the layouts had been pre-planned by an architect.
It was important that our design fit in with the overall look and feel of the home and, obviously, the practical considerations of how a busy family would live, work and eat in this space were paramount. Important elements such as the long windows and new timber floor were already in place and, combined with the rooms large light aspect, provided plenty for us to think about in selecting materials.
A combination of timber-look and painted door finishes accentuates the industrial feel already dictated by the window and door frames. We further developed this theme by selecting stainless steel for the run of the sink and cooktop, but wanted to avoid an overly matched aesthetic, which could easily have become overwhelming in such a large room.
Gorgeous stone and a subtle mix of hard-wearing finishes keep this space rich and balanced, while practical elements including a pull-out spice rack and butler’s pantry ensure it will remain a favourite for years to come.”
