The Southern Hemisphere’s largest floral and garden show will be bringing the Best of the Best for it’s 25th Anniversary on the 25 – 29 March

This year’s Show will be the biggest ever, with more unmissable floral and garden features than ever before and an incredible lineup of some of the greatest landscape and floral designers in Australia and abroad. Across five-days, visitors are expected to in join in the festivities with more than 900 floral, landscape and garden exhibitors transforming the grounds of Carlton Gardens and the interior of the iconic Royal Exhibition Building.

In an exciting first, the crowd-favourite Show Gardens will be designed by an outstanding collective of Australia’s most awarded landscape designers, who have each previously won the coveted ‘Award of Excellence for Best in Show.’ Representing the unbridled unique vision of each designer, the Show Garden precinct will exhibit a calibre of skill and creativity like never before. With 40% more garden displays then ever before, this is the event not to miss.

To reflect the changing nature of the Australian backyard, this year’s Show will welcome the Ryman Healthcare Balcony Garden Competition, designed to inspire urban dwellers with limited square meters and a passion for gardening. Each installation will showcase a unique garden oasis, demonstrating what can be achieved in the smallest of spaces. Ryman Healthcare ambassador and landscape design expert, Matt Leacy, will be at the Show offering complimentary landscape design consultations to those looking to make the most of their small spaces. The London College of Garden Design Melbourne, alongside landscape designer Brent Reid, will launch their inaugural competition at the Show, which will see six garden designers showcase small garden designs under the theme, “Embrace the City”.

Royal Motor Yacht Club chooses EnduroShield to protect its glass https://www.completehome.com.au/outdoors/royal-motor-yacht-club-enduroshield-glass.html Fri, 16 Feb 2018 05:44:02 +0000 https://www.completehome.com.au/?p=42296 The EnduroShield Sydney Applicator recently had the luxury of protecting a glass pool fence located at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Sydney, Australia

The EnduroShield Sydney Applicator recently had the luxury of protecting a glass pool fence located at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Sydney, Australia

Between the pool and the sea, it’s easy to see why the Royal Motor Yacht Club chose EnduroShield to protect their glass. EnduroShield is completely invisible and keeps the glass cleaner for longer between cleans. The yacht club’s patrons will now enjoy gorgeous views through their clear protected glass for years to come.

EnduroShield creates a protective barrier that stops contaminants from etching into the glass surface which is quite porous. Instead, water and contaminants bead up on the protective treatment just like in a non-stick fry pan, and are then easily wiped off with a damp microfibre cloth and a mild detergent
.
Glass pool fencing allows uninterrupted views, but is susceptible to chlorine, salt spray, pool chemicals, and general air pollutants. EnduroShield-protected pool fencing dramatically reduces the time needed to clean outdoor glass, and even saves on cleaning and maintenance expenses.

Suitable for new and existing surfaces, EnduroShield comes with a 10-year warranty. Glass is available pre-coated with EnduroShield for new builds, can be applied by a professional team of applicators for existing glass onsite, or for small areas such as shower screens you can use the company’s easy-to-apply DIY kits. EnduroShield is used in many sustainable homes as it reduces water usage and eliminates the use of toxic cleaning chemicals.

For peace of mind, get your feature glass protected with EnduroShield. If it’s good enough for Royal Motor Yacht Club, it’s good enough for your pool fence.

EnduroShield DIY kits are available in most good hardware stores including Bunnings, and other kitchen and bathroom retailers, and on-line at www.enduroshield.com. You can also make a booking with our professional team of applicators at www.enduroshield.com. And EnduroShield pre-coated glass is available from many leading pool fencing suppliers.

Choosing the correct edging products is a crucial step in achieving and maintaining a definitive and enduring barrier between any two elements in the garden whether that be the lawn, path, bed or pavers.

Plastic and wood are both susceptible to damage and come with various drawbacks. The obvious solution is steel;  not only  is it long lasting, it is also incredibly versatile. While the much-loved steel garden edging product EverEdge has been available in England for over 20 years, local enthusiasts can now rejoice at its recent arrival to Australian gardens.

Made from 90% recycled 1.6 mm mild steel, EverEdge takes the hard work out of installation. The malleable finish means it can be shaped by hand without the need for special tools. Installation is quick and easy, the product is simply hammered directly into the ground using the spikes that are part of the metre lengths which easily interlock. EverEdge works perfectly with a wide variety of garden materials including synthetic grass, pavers, rolled tarmac, gravel and pebbles as well as all mulches and natural grasses.

With a range of powder-coated colours and finishes to choose from, EverEdge suits all gardens and landscapes. Galvanised and powder coated finishes are available in black and brown while the Cor-Ten rust finish provides a stunning feature.  It is available in three different depths:  75 mm, 100 mm and 125 mm.

EverEdge is delivered Australia wide and is also available through various stockists.

A look at what to except at the Melbourne International Garden Show

IMG_2936

That’s right, what’s new. Of course they’ll enjoy spotting something they grow at home, or a landscaping technique they’ve already adopted. But people really visit the garden show each year because they know they’ll be given fresh ideas and new plants to play with. Why would any gardener miss that opportunity?

The Melbourne International Garden Show (fondly referred to as MIFGS) has just packed up following another great year. The weather was glorious – still, bright clear Autumn days – and this year even the local native possum population seemed to be less interested in all the delectable plants arranged temptingly below.

If you were there you’d have joined the visitors as they poured into what was a gardener’s wonderland. Tool afficiandos were given demonstrations of pruning tools that extended many metres skywards. Cunningly forced tulips reminded us why we need to fill our bags with bulbs and get them into the ground for Spring. There were garden sculptures and ornaments for everyone – tasteful to doubtful, but all wonderful in their own special way. And there were mini glimpses of gardens created by the professionals – glorious visions full of practical suggestions about the way we live in our outdoor spaces.

But the heroes of the show are always the new plants. It wasn’t hard to spot them: there’d be an eager throng of gardeners clustered and attentive, while someone handed a pot full of something lovely and new to examine. In the case of Anthony Tesselaar Plants, Phillip Townshend was the man surrounded as he showed not one but four new Australian releases at this year’s MIFGS…

Volcano Phlox arrives down under: Sometimes something in the garden that’s very loved and familiar is completely new to a group of gardeners – just because they’re from another part of the world. In the United States, phlox is everywhere, and Volcano phlox   is the best of them. This is a compact, bushy plant that grows mid thigh high and throughout summer is covered in gorgeous flowers that smell fantastic. A new release in Australia, there’re many colour combinations to choose from.

Check out this Sunset and Sunrise: The first thing you think when you see these Pacific coprosmas , is that they are lovely specimen plants. Which is crazy because they were bred to be the perfect plant for the professional landscaper – someone who uses massed plantings and hedges more often than single hero plants in a pot. But it doesn’t matter really. Whatever you decide to do with these tough, funky performers is fine. They grow to around a three feet or a metre high, and look great in bold massed plantings set against grasses. They can make a colour statement in the form of a dense, well-behaved hedge. And they would look very special in feature pots flanking the front door. They’re gorgeous, new and fool proof.

Just released, Coprosma Pacific Sunrise (above) and Sunset (below) are both absolutely magnificent, and dead easy to grow.

Daphne Perfume Princess: She was at the show, wafting around MIFGS, gathering devotees not only with her perfume but also with the size of her blooms. Let’s face it: daphne usually hooks us in by our noses not our eyes, but the wonderful  Perfume Princess , just released, has looks as well. So now when you cut some daphne to bring indoors, instead of a sprig in a small vase, you can make an arrangement of flowers that are six centimetres (that’s more than two inches) across. Shocking really – but in a lovely way. Keep an eye out for it because it will be snapped up fast.

Sweet Spot roses: And like most things, if we have to wait for them then they are somehow so much better. We all caught a glimpse of the new Sweet Spot roses  which have been available in the United States since the northern Spring and will be for antipodean gardeners when Winter breaks in a few months’ time. Like any good rose Sweet Spots are compact and very free flowering, right through the warmer months. Their colours are delectable and they all have the most adorable sweet spot smack in the middle.

Some of the biggest names in the industry, including multi award-winning designers, are coming to Sydney for the Australian Garden Show 2014

AustralianGardenShow2014

The Australian Garden show in Sydney is the year’s biggest gardening event, and it’s set to be an exciting installment. The team have lined up a collection of brilliant minds and designers to come together at this year’s show. There’s Australian Jim Fogarty, who has just won Best In Show win at the UK’s Hampton Court Palace Flower Show; at last year’s show he exhibited a Gallipoli-inspired garden titled ‘The Last To Leave’. This year he’ll be participating as a judge alongside Graham Ross VMM, House Rules’ Joe Snell, Director of Horticulture Operations at Royal Botanic Gardens, Jimmy Turner and Linda Ross.

Jim Fogarty will also join Nigel Ruck and Don Burke in the construction of a modern backyard farm garden that the public can watch evolve over the four days of the show from 4-7 September in Centennial Park. Garden show visitors will have the opportunity to contribute to some of the decisions of the design of the garden, elements of which will be made from recycled and/or re-used materials.

This year’s show has doubled in size, featuring over 30 display gardens built by a range of expert and emerging landscape designers. The categories include two Feature Gardens as well as 10 Inspirational Gardens, 10 City Gardens presented by Debco and 10 Balcony Gardens presented by Yates that will be judged by a panel.

Andrew Fisher Tomlin, NHGA UK Garden Designer of the year, returns to Sydney to create a garden for the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation, 2014 Official Charity Partner, that focuses on dementia – providing a place where those living with dementia can feel comfortable and safe. Andrew’s design will look at the potential of gardens to offer a lifeline to those with early onset dementia by providing them with coping strategies, a sense of place and therapeutic benefits.

Welcoming the spring weather, Phillip Withers’ ‘My Island Home’ brings a piece of paradise to the show, featuring a timber beach hut and bridge surrounded by tall palms and colourful succulents.

Myles Baldwin will also build an Inspirational Garden to be judged alongside Withers, Fisher Tomlin and others including Christopher Owen, Brent Reid, Adrian Swainand Peta Donaldson.

The popular Talks Series will feature over 80 talks, presented over three stages, providing visitors with the opportunity to hear from and engage with special guest speakers and experts presenting progressive ideas on gardening, design and wellbeing. Topics range from rooftop gardens, to Australian native orchards and worm farming.

Tickets and further program information are available at: australiangardenshowsydney.com.au
