Country pool escape: rural tranquility

Rural tranquility is at the heart of this enticing country pool and spa design that complements the clean lines of the architect-designed home

The setting for this family pool is both special and unique, offering rural views of lush, rolling Victorian hills. With an amazing backdrop to their property, these homeowners wanted their pool to be visually striking, as well as a focal point of the property and a centre for entertaining and enjoyment for their children as they grow up.

Presented with a simple flat site, East Coast Pools’ owner and principal Colin Sloggett had to create a country pool that would blend with the residence. “The house has architecturally designed, straight, clean lines and is rectangular in essence, so the pool was designed to reflect that,” says Colin.

The 9m-long rectangular pool boasts a 400mm-wide ledge that runs the full length of the pool, and 4m-wide offset steps, with a bottom step that wraps all the way around, across the front and either side.

Colin says having the spa separate from the pool is unique these days, with many homeowners having space or budget constraints that prevent this. The spa is a step up from the pool, with an overflow into the pool that allows water to flow down from the spa. This means the pool and spa are connected, although they are separate. “For convenience, budget and space, many people put the spa inside the pool so it was nice in this circumstance to have the spa separate,” says Colin. “The pool and spa can be used at the same time without any issues.”

A Pentair fully integrated control system was incorporated for the pool, spa, heating and lighting. The Pentair VS IntelliFlo variable speed pump allows homeowners to run the pump at varying speeds to suit the application. For example, you can run the filtration at a lower speed and increase the speed when more power is needed for the spa jets or the in-floor cleaning system, which is all scheduled into the controller.

An undercover entertaining area is positioned near the pool, with tables and chairs for family members to sit and eat at while looking out over the water. “The whole front of the house opens up to the decks and pool area,” says Colin. With rolling green hills in the background, this country pool and spa is difficult to surpass.
