Interlink’s Personal Touch on a Northern Beaches Infinity Pool and Spa

An exquisite infinity-edge pool and spa that not only fits in with the Northern Beaches landscape, but has become a visual feature of the property and holds a special place in the heart of its builder and designer.

General manager of Interlink Pools & Landscapes, Lincoln Courtney has a very personal attachment to this glorious outdoor project on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. In fact, it’s safe to say it will forever be part of his family’s memories.

“I designed the pool for my family to enjoy,” explains Lincoln of this infinity wet-edge pool and spa at Whale Beach. “It was actually my house; our two young kids loved bombing off the spa into the deep end. Unfortunately, we had to sell the house during the pandemic due to financial restrictions.”

Interlink Pools & Landscapes designed and built the entire area, including the 7m-long rectangular pool. “I always like a pool to fit in with the landscape and become a visual feature, and this pool certainly catches your eye from all areas of the house and garden,” says Lincoln. “When inside the kitchen/living room, the idea came to me that this had to be the spot for the pool. It looks out over the wet edge and up the coast of rocky cliffs and beaches, the sun glistening off the emerald mosaics in the water.”

The slightly sloping site was the reason behind the infinity wet-edge design. “It allowed us to use the steepest area and for a water feature to be enjoyed from the garden sun deck,” says Lincoln.

Lincoln likes to design pools that feature something special and blend into the garden landscape, so he incorporated Ezarri emerald glass mosaics that reflect the colours of the ocean, and Valencia aged taupe limestone paving and coping in a natural earth shade.

Unfortunately, as is the case with many sloping sites, this project was not without its challenges. “Our geological technician assumed the bedrock would be 0.3m under the surface, however, once we excavated, we needed to site the entire pool on concrete piers, some 9m deep,” says Lincoln.

Although the property is no longer owned by Lincoln and his family, it has provided them with many precious memories. Meanwhile, its new owners also recognise just how special it is. “Following the auction, the current owners said ‘we were over our budget, but we just had to have it’,” says Lincoln.

Functional, innovative designs and a dedication to client satisfaction set Interlink Pools & Landscapes apart. Established more than 20 years ago by Lincoln Courtney, the company now works on five to 10 residential and commercial pool and landscape projects each year.

Lincoln employs a passionate team of skilled and experienced tradespeople who specialise in outdoor construction, design and maintenance. “We specialise in custom concrete pools, which allows us to build any shape we can think of,” says Lincoln. He and his team offer a free consultation with new clients to gauge their wants and needs, then sketch the design through CAD, organise local council lodgment and see it through to construction.

Interlink Pools & Landscapes has also been part of the winning team in the HIA Home of the Year Awards for two categories ($3m+ and $5m+ as the pool builder and landscaper).
