Breeze Pool Projects stripped the pool back and fully tiled it with beautiful 48mm Origami Frost Mint tiles from The Pool Tile Company, giving it a modern and vibrant bluegrey hue. The new Jupiter drop face coping also added a sleek finish to the pool, now squared off for a more contemporary look. The design focuses on both function and style, providing a spacious, entertainer-friendly layout, with a spa and shallow swim-out area perfect for all ages.

The owners, who use the property as a holiday home, wanted a space for large groups to relax and entertain, especially in the warmer months. The pool’s modern design and features – including the lap pool with connected spa – offer an ideal space for swimming, lounging, and enjoying outdoor living. Breeze Pool Projects team overcame some challenges during the renovation, particularly in terms of accessibility, as the pool was above ground on a sloping block. The team had to carefully remove the old structure and rebuild it, preserving the surrounding wooden deck.

Every part of the project has been carefully considered to develop a sense of continuity and integration between the house and the landscape. The brickwork and stone from the pool and cabana tie into the materials on the exterior of this knockdown-rebuild home to create a unified look.

The open cabana is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the serenity of the pool. It provides a space for the homeowners to relax and unwind with a drink in the evening, or escape the sunshine during the heat of the day. A WC and shower have been built into the cabana so pool users can use the facilities without bringing wet feet into the home.

The stunning Ezarri pool tiles used in this project are a feature worth mentioning as they’ve been custom mixed to reflect the colourings of the Sardinian coastline — a nod to the homeowners’ heritage.

The project has been designed with the owners’ love of the outdoors in mind. They wanted a visually appealing garden that can be viewed from the house and which provides colour and foliage in all four seasons. A raised vegetable garden provides fresh produce for their kitchen and is a quaint addition to the design.

The spectacular garden and pool were designed by ecodesign and built by sister company AEON Pools. Their landscaping company, The Other Side, looked after the construction of the cabana, the hardscaping and plantings. “We look at the whole integrated landscape and this project represents why we do what we do — it’s a good balance of hardscape, softscape and plantscape,” says Adrian Swain, director of ecodesign.

The project was situated in the leafy suburb of Lindfield, where many established trees had to be accommodated in the pool design and excavation. The terrain was also rockbased, which required a bit more effort in terms of planning and excavation, but it was nothing the talented team couldn’t handle.

“Their starting canvas was dirt, rock and weeds and we were blown away by their professionalism and expertise,” say homeowners Viv and Karen. “From the new pool and cabana to the carefully crafted garden beds, plant selections and placement, driveway and walkways, every aspect of the project was executed with utmost care. The finished result is a true oasis, a place where we now love to spend all our time. We are so grateful to have found such a talented and dependable landscaping team and we would highly recommend them to anyone looking to transform their outdoor space as we did.”

Ecoskim was first designed in response to Queensland’s ongoing drought conditions. The new skimmer technology conserves water, keeping pools clean and cost-efficient through fluctuating weather conditions.

The new design means fewer water top-ups compared to a standard skimmer box. This is due to the self-levelling skimmer’s unique floating design and powerful ‘weir effect’ that operates well in all water levels.

“From drought events and dust storms to flash flooding in a matter of weeks – Australian pool owners have had a challenging summer,” says Waterco group marketing director Bryan Goh.

“We can’t control the weather. But, with the Ecoskim, we can keep up the maintenance of our pool regardless of the forecast.”

“You no longer have to worry about the pump running dry when water drops below the skimmer box,” Goh explains. “Having a larger water level window and leaf basket also means a pool can go months without requiring top-ups.

“This is perfect for when you’re on holidays or away for extended periods.”

How Ecoskim works

A flexible hose connects Ecoskim into the suction end of the pool’s filtration system. When water is drawn in, floating component finds a differential between the different water levels. This creates a weir effect that skims floating debris from the surface. Ecoskim continues to operate regardless of water levels (down to 350mm below coping, or top edge). With surface debris removed, it is less likely to settle and breakdown on the pool floor. This reduces cleaning cycles and chemical costs.

“Skimmer boxes, in their current form, have been around for about 30-40 years. The concept of how they operate has remained unchanged – despite attitudes to sustainability and water usage evolving over the past decade,” says inventors Mark Davies and Paul De Groot.
