Perched high above the coastline in Mount Martha, this striking pool project celebrates uninterrupted views, refined restraint and a deep connection to landscape. Designed to complement the home’s Tuscan-inspired architecture, the pool and outdoor living area form a calm yet luxurious retreat overlooking the ever-changing blues of Port Phillip Bay.
From the outset, the homeowners were clear in their vision: an elegant pool that felt embedded in the architecture rather than added on. To achieve this, Personal Pools designed a concrete, above-ground pool positioned 1.25m out of the ground at the front of the house. This considered elevation allows the waterline to sit seamlessly within the sightline of the bay, creating the illusion of floating above the landscape.
A key feature of the design is what’s been deliberately left out. With no fencing to interrupt the vista, the pool appears to merge effortlessly with the horizon beyond. The result is a visually uninterrupted outdoor space that feels expansive, serene and deeply connected to its coastal setting.
The surrounding entertaining zone has been carefully curated to function as a complete outdoor room. Barbecue facilities, generous dining space and poolside lounging areas sit beneath a structured pergola, creating an environment equally suited to lively gatherings or quiet moments of retreat. Tall trees and layered greenery provide privacy while softening the architecture and grounding the space within its natural surrounds.
At the heart of the project, the pool itself becomes both focal point and sanctuary. Framed by clean lines and warm materials, it reflects the shifting colours of sky and sea throughout the day. Whether enjoyed as a refreshing daytime escape or during a tranquil sunset swim, the pool delivers an experience that feels immersive and restorative.
This Mount Martha project is a confident expression of balance between architecture and nature, openness and privacy, form and function. It stands as a refined example of how thoughtful pool design can elevate not just a home, but the way it’s lived in.
