About Spiral Cellars – Wine Storage
Spiral Cellars is the established and industry leading creator of underground wine cellars offering a flexible, unique and seamless system for storing fine wines in the home.
A watertight cylindrical concrete system is sunk into the earth through the ground floor of a house, from the convenience of the kitchen or lounge to the garage or basement, and its size options offer great flexibility whatever the collection.
The Spiral Cellar was first developed by Frenchman Georges Harnois in 1977 and came to the UK in 1981. It is designed to store wine at optimum humidity, temperature and darkness and works by using the earth’s natural attributes and a clever ventilation system. Its position in the ground means the cellar remains at an average temperature of around 15-16°C and the ventilation and concrete construction maintain a humidity of approximately 70%, both perfect for storing everyday drinking wines or that case of Shiraz until it is ready to enjoy.
With an approximate diameter of 2m and depths of between 2m and 3m available, allowing for between 1,000 and 1870 bottles, a Spiral Cellar is the ideal option for the hobbyist or avid collector alike and can easily be customised to the individual home and wine lover.
Cellar options include the Original Spiral Cellar with five depth options for up to 1,600 bottles, and the White Spiral Cellar in smooth luminous white concrete, which incorporates larger bins in each of its depths to allow for up to 1870 bottles. The White Spiral Cellar also offers a range of features including LED lighting, wider steps and a range of step tread coverings including leather and slate effect for the wine collector keen to enjoy and share his cellar space.
Spiral Cellars are maintenance-free and, because they are dug into the ground, are space-saving. The Spiral Cellar can be sealed with a range of doors, from the showcase retractable round glass door to the recessed options, which also have the ability to fit seamlessly into any interior scheme.
Spiral Cellars works with the client to decide on the best cellar for their needs and the most suitable location in the house. The team will then handle any building regulation or permit requirements before excavating the site and installing the system. If the homeowner is planning other building works Spiral Cellars also offers a supply and install service should the builder be able to excavate the hole. The installation process takes between 5-9 days and from the initial site survey to final visit the process should take no more than 16 weeks.
