Coming from American line of home builders, Hamptons-style home suits different lifestyle, including those living in the southern hemisphere

The Hamptons look may hail from the American side. But the style perfectly complements the Australian lifestyle as this award-winning home in Queensland’s Park Ridge so amply proves. Dubbed Project Abbeydale, this 247sqm home located on a 381sqm corner lot is a custom-designed, low-set, Hamptons-inspired build.

Working to a design by Space Building Design, the stunning single-storey home was built by Mitcon Build under the guiding hand of Director Mitch Pocklington.  Mitch says, “It was a challenging design taking into consideration its amazing outlook to a bushland reserve, elevated position and corner truncations, not to mention the need to fit everything the client wanted into a small corner lot.

Spacious features of Hamptons-style homes

“Because of the three gables, which includes a middle gable that extends at a 45-degree angle toward the reserve, constructing the frame was challenging, but rewarding. This is a unique aspect of the Hamptons-style home. To achieve the design, we also had to construct a truss which incorporated three layers stacked on top of each other along with some hand-pitched rafters.”

The client’s overall brief was for a liveable, low-maintenance forever home with an easy flow. “The brief emphasised open-plan living with generous room sizes,” adds Mitch. “In particular, the client wanted the bathrooms to be spacious with the main bathroom being capable of adapting to use by someone living with a disability should the need arise. We were able to achieve all of this and more.”

Putting a mix of Australian touch

In the early stages of the build process, Mitch suggested some changes to the finer design details. Some of these changes are the inclusion of ornate cornices, decorative Queenslander-style lambs tongue skirting and architraves, and 2-Pack Shaker-style kitchen and bathroom cabinetry in unique colours. The result is a warm and welcoming home with all the traditional Hamptons touches yet a distinct personality.

“The final product speaks for itself with the client’s expectations well and truly exceeded. The property stands out in the estate and is admired by the residents,” says Mitch.

Founded by Mitch Pocklington in 2017, Brisbane-based Mitcon Build is a locally-owned and -operated construction company servicing South East Queensland. Mitch’s experience and skillset ensure each home built have a high-quality finish that will last. Mitcon Build also works closely with a wide range of industry professionals, consultants and contractors. With a three-tier crystal chandelier and smart home technology, this home is the definition of the modern classic American home.

This highly detailed, classic American home offers uninterrupted views of Queensland’s Moreton Bay and all the way to the sand hills of Moreton Island. To make the most of the Sunshine State’s glorious weather, it also offers seamless indoor-outdoor entertaining options across multiple levels.

A 1960s home sat on the original 810sqm site located in Wynnum, south-east of Brisbane. The existing home was demolished, the lot subdivided and an extensive development approval process embarked upon to build this three-storey home.

The end result is a 503sqm, five-bedroom, four-bathroom home with everything you could want at your fingertips. New yet timeless, it boasts classic coastal interiors and the latest in smart home technology by Electronic Living.

“The exterior design takes inspiration from the classic American style of architecture and the interior incorporates a subtle palette of soft neutrals, detailed wall panelling and French Oak floors, providing a timeless, coastal feel,” says Tafline Bandiera, Managing Director/Design & Selections Consultant, Build Prestige Homes.

“The entry hall is a breath of fresh air featuring herringbone timber floors and a two-storey void filled with a three-tier crystal chandelier,” she continues. “The very generous open-plan kitchen living and dining area features bespoke joinery, lit glass-fronted cabinetry, VJ linings, bamboo detail hardware, natural textures, designer chandeliers and a gas flame fireplace. This area flows seamlessly through to the oversized undercover balcony with its barbecue area and raked ceiling.”

Four of the bedrooms are on the middle level of the home, with the guest suite located upstairs for extra privacy. The master bedroom has views of the bay plus a spacious walk-in robe with a chandelier, and a luxurious ensuite with encaustic tiles, a freestanding bath and classic tapware.

“The grand kitchen is simply stunning and features 40mm-thick Smartstone benchtops, a large apron-front fireclay sink, white satin 2-pack cabinetry and a very large butler’s pantry with sink, dishwasher and ample space for all your pantry items and counter appliances,” says Tafline. “Premium appliances include a double integrated fridge and freezer, a large freestanding ILVE induction cooker, a wall oven and integrated microwave, and two Miele dishwashers.

“The facade is striking with arched details to the front balcony and pedestrian gate. Alpine drystone cladding from Eco Outdoor was expertly fitted to the front facade by craftsmen and there is a large apron balcony with a Chippendale balustrade that imbues the home with even more kerb appeal. The grey colour palette is accented with features painted white while the grand custom-designed front door, featuring a large arch highlight window, is painted a striking black.”
