Style and functionality come together in perfect harmony with this beautiful kitchen redesign from mystoryco.

Prior to the revamp, the kitchen looked outdated with its small benchtops and brown and cream palette. There wasn’t even an oven! There was also an unused room next to the kitchen that connected to the lounge, but more on that later. The team at mystoryco certainly had their work cut out for them, but the end result showed what an amazing job they did. Modern yet timeless, the new kitchen follows a clean minimalist aesthetic, providing a contemporary chic look with its monochromatic palette.

There’s a lot to love about this updated space. What truly sings out to us are the gorgeous Staron Supreme Morning Sky benchtops from Austaron Surfaces, with their 80mm-thick edging. The colour mimics the beautiful morning sky and gives the kitchen a splash of style. The benchtop material itself is super durable and easy to clean, making it perfect for large families or anyone who loves to make a mess in the kitchen. Last but not least, its waterfall end entices you to run your hand over it and bask in its luxury look.

As for the previously unused room, the mystoryco team closed that off and created a butler’s pantry and hallway to separate the space. Furthermore, the butler’s pantry was designed to close off the messier parts of the kitchen, keeping the space looking fabulous all day long. The extra room even provides additional storage capacity.

While we’re on the topic of storage, this new kitchen has it in droves. From a spice drawer to hidden-away bins and even a tea towel caddy, these ample storage designs all have pull-out functionality, which means they blend seamlessly into the space rather than stick out awkwardly. It’s practicality in every sense of the word, and the ample storage options make hiding appliances incredibly effortless.

Finally, the large windows allow for plenty of natural lighting to filter into the space throughout the day. For evenings, however, the area can be gently illuminated by the LED strip lighting. Featuring strong and sleek lines, LED lighting is now a top choice for many contemporary homes due to its energy-saving abilities and generous longevity.

Backing onto bushland and perched atop a sloping block, this kit home is the perfect fit for the site and the family

A steeply sloping building site presents both challenges and opportunities. Here, the drop affords the rear of the home beautiful bushland views and a feeling of being among the treetops. The sharp fall of the 20-acre site, however, meant that to safely build the home, some clever engineering would be required.

Having decided they wanted a kit home, the owners — a young Queensland family — started searching online. They found their way to the Imagine Kit Homes’ website where they were struck by the wide range of designs and floor plans; also the level of customisation available.

They were particularly impressed by the epic designs. However, they knew it would need some modification to suit their block of land. Of course, Imagine Kit Homes was happy to oblige. “This was a difficult site so the home had to be designed to follow the natural contours of the land,” explains Keith Richardson, Imagine Kit Homes’ General Manager.

“The block of land also sat in a bushfire zone so the home was fully customised to not just meet the clients’ lifestyle needs but also the site requirements and building regulations. We oversaw the entire process, from custom design and engineering through to certification, manufacturing, delivery and construction support.”

Modern entertainment

The home the family dared to imagine is an impressive one. It boasts everything the modern family needs, including a theatre room and a home office. Imagine Kit Homes adds a spectacular double-sided fireplace to create a focal point. This creates a feature wall that delineates the lounge and dining areas. In addition, it also provides warmth and ambience when the family gathers together or entertains.

“When you enter the home, the theatre room, with its suspended ceiling, sits to the right. To the left is the formal lounge which opens to the family and dining area,” says Keith. “There are also four generous bedrooms, including a guest bedroom with an ensuite and built-in robe which is located at the front. Bedrooms two and three flank a family bathroom and were placed to one side of the home while, for privacy, the master bedroom is on the other side. And as this is a family-friendly design, in addition to the theatre room there is an activity area and a computer nook.”

For year-round entertaining,  there is a balcony that’s big enough to have separate alfresco dining and lounge areas. The balcony also allows the homeowners to benefit from the stunning bushland view. Above all, the decking boards add visual warmth and the glass balustrade ensures the vista remains unobstructed.

Dealing with a sloping site

To deal with the slope of the site, the house was built using an elevated floor system and concrete slab. It’s important to ensure that the house meets the requirements of Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) 29. With an eye on sustainability, the home features an off-grid solar power system.

The home’s facade is modern and striking. It features raked rooflines and a combination of exterior cladding materials. These features give the abode a contemporary look while ensuring it fits comfortably and unobtrusively into its semi-rural Redland Bay.
