This beautiful Victorian home had been completely gutted by the homeowners and needed a clean start.

The designers, tasked with reviving the space, were asked to create a contemporary style kitchen that maximised the modest space available, while also providing plenty of storage. Careful consideration of the floor plan was undertaken to orient everything in the best way possible, creating this spacious and highly functional kitchen.

Kitchen Choice

To keep the space looking open and reduce the appearance of any clutter, clever use of internal drawer systems behind the cabinets added more functional storage room. Similarly, the appliances were all integrated to make for a minimalist profile to let the textures and colours stand out. The induction stovetop and dual wall-mounted ovens in the cooking area are close together, making for a more streamlined process when it’s food prep time. Grey concrete throughout adds a moody atmosphere that’s complemented by the smaller touches, like the dark Pepe tapware.

Contemporary Style Kitchen Design

The stunning parquet flooring is both a focal point and a nod to the home’s origins. The finished product of this contemporary style kitchen offers utility and beauty, flowing seamlessly into the adjacent living area.

This contemporary kitchen was created with a soft colour palette in mind, which provided an opportunity to insert finishings with character and charm throughout the space.

The client brief specified a sweet and simple colour palette and designer Carla Waghorn of Design Artistry executed it brilliantly, while still creating a compelling design that begs a second glance.

The Staron Ocean View benchtop by Austaron provides a functional surface that also injects texture and subtle colour throughout. The smooth surface highlights the warm tones and subtle wave patterns of the benchtop, creating a delicate and ethereal effect that brings a bit of magic to the space.

This beautiful benchtop works perfectly with the cabinetry and the simple fittings. The soft waves of the material are completely uninterrupted thanks to seamless joins, and extend all the way to the back wall, which houses a storage area for heavier appliances that the clients don’t use very often.

This kitchen is a triumphant example of how clever design and a focus on materiality can elevate a space even with a pared-back colour palette. While soft and minimal, there is warmth and depth here which makes it welcoming to all who enter.

Ashley Maddison is a name that pops up ever so often in kitchen design circles, and with good reason.

Her studio AM Interior Studio has been winning significant design awards of late, including the KBDi All Bathrooms Design Award for Queensland.AM Interior Studio is the result of many years of thoughtful, hard work, and the results are already beginning to show.

AM-Interiors-Styled-Kitchen

Ashley always wanted to be an interior designer and wanted to have her own studio. She completed her diploma in Interior Technology from Southbank TAFE with a high distinction in 2006, but went back to university to get a degree in Interior Design from QUT, which she completed with a first class honours in 2012. “Uni showed me another way to approach a design and TAFE prepared me for the practical sides of the job, such as software programs and documenting,” she shares.

Subsequently, Ashley worked for architects and a bespoke joinery company before going out on her own nearly five years ago. She opened her new studio in Morningside late last year.

Industrial-Style-Kitchen

Ashley has an enviable work ethic. She says she puts 110 per cent into everything she does, no matter the size of the project. She works with the client/builder/architect at the floor plan stage, creating a custom design for each of her jobs. She loves to challenge the norm. “I question everything: ‘Does it need to be like that or can we change it?’ That really helps stop your designs looking stagnant,” she says.

She says she finds inspiration all around her, and is always researching. “A designer’s mind never shuts off at 5pm. I like finding a hidden beauty in something and applying it to an interior setting,” says Ashley of her process. Most of all, she wants to look back at her work and be inspired and proud of what she has achieved.

Meet the Demands of the Modern Kitchen https://www.completehome.com.au/kitchens/a-kitchen-made-for-enjoyment.html Tue, 22 Mar 2022 03:15:51 +0000 https://www.completehome.com.au/?p=66679 When you think of technology in the kitchen, chances are you envisage the fastest-heating self-cleaning ovens or perhaps seamless stovetop.

When you think of technology in the kitchen, chances are you envisage the fastest-heating self-cleaning ovens, seamless stovetops, or perhaps simply a refrigerator with ice and cold water on tap.

Yet technology in the kitchen can be so much more than that, as this room from Kitchen Shop QLD proves. Here, the demands of a modern lifestyle have been met by combining technology, functionality and style, resulting in a space that is simply made for enjoyment.

In this room, several cupboard doors employ Blum SERVO-DRIVE electric lift-up capabilities, allowing for easy access. LED lighting to the drawers and pantry ensure visibility and there-fore workability in this space is a breeze.

ZETR flush power points were another addition to the room that create a streamlined feel, along with handle-less doors and drawers that offer a sense of continuity.

One of the highlights of the space is an UNWYRE wireless phone charger that truly makes life easy. Simply place your device on the surface and let it recharge without the unsightly cords and plugs that add mess and clutter to your kitchen space.

Of course, the modern features don’t end with technology. This kitchen enjoys a contemporary aesthetic achieved by tall black cabinetry complemented by glossy white cabinetry on the opposing side of the space. A quartzite benchtop with refined veining adds a sense of luxury to the room, and the space is warmed thanks to the use of feature timber in the stools.

Timber is also present in the frames of the bay windows, which open out to the entertaining area and allow for the exchange of food and conversation with those in the space beyond. This was a critical design point for the owners, for whom entertaining is second nature.

One order of a dreamy kitchen perfect for a bustling young family and complete with the most gorgeous green and white palette? Yes, please.

The brief for this project, part of a complete facelift and extension of a 1940s house, was to create a functional and fun home that is full of life. The owner is an outgoing mother of three young children who wanted the design to reflect her personality and suit her busy family lifestyle. Zavie Creative was engaged to design the layout of the residence including the joinery design, and selecting the fixtures, finishes, furniture and decorative lighting.

When the search for the benchtop, splashback and sink materials began, consideration was given to the family’s lifestyle requirements and Staron® Solid Surfaces was selected. Staron® offers a hardwearing, easy-to-maintain and durable surface that is suitable for a busy family home. The material is aesthetically beautiful and has the performance benefits of a premium solid surface. Staron® is hygienic, repairable, resists stains and has a monolithic nature. The joining properties of Staron® eliminate any dirt-trapping crevices with no open joins so the surface starts at the splashback, continues to the benchtop and flows into the sink in one continuous surface. In this home, the surface has also been extended to the butler’s pantry benchtop, splashback and sink, laundry benchtop and splashback as well as the alfresco kitchen benchtop.

The warmth of the neutral benchtop colour complements the V-groove cabinetry that brings character and texture to the design. The timber floors add another warm element, while the contemporary feature lighting over the kitchen island lends a modern touch. The continuation of materials in the different spaces creates a feeling of unity and cohesion throughout the house.

The end result is a functional family home that is warm, inviting and oozes personality.

Get The Look: Industrial Style Kitchen https://www.completehome.com.au/kitchens/get-the-look-industrial-style-kitchen.html Tue, 23 Nov 2021 04:28:19 +0000 https://www.completehome.com.au/?p=64337 Characterised by exposed brick walls and pipes, stainless steel and reclaimed wood surfaces, industrial style kitchens make a real design statement.

The post Get The Look: Industrial Style Kitchen appeared first on Completehome.

]]>
There are few places in the house which revel in the beauty and unassuming ease of the industrial style as much as the kitchen.

What began as an efficient work environment decades ago, has morphed into a distinct style that can be found in all types of homes, from contemporary penthouses to large family homes. Here’s how you can get the look.

Embrace exposed surfaces

Exposed brick always delivers on charm and personality, and it works perfectly in an industrial scheme offering the unfinished look that this style is known for.

So, if you can remove the plaster to expose brickwork, do so. Make sure you test a patch first to ensure the condition and type of bricks are suitable. If brick isn’t your style, or isn’t an option, then exposed concrete is another great option, and it needn’t be real concrete – faux poured concrete, which is applied like plaster and looks incredibly close to real concrete, is now widely available and looks cool and contemporary in the kitchen.

Mix and match materials

Another key character of industrial style is the merging of different materials – think leather furniture combined with stainless steel appliances and tapware, metal floor lamps, bar stools, and concrete worktops.

Select a toned-down colour palette and pick lighting made from black steel, copper, or brass. Concrete worktops will add sleek sophistication and practicality to the space. Reclaimed wood is also a striking material to use for your kitchen island and shelves – adding to the industrial décor.

Maximise open space

Ideally, your industrial kitchen will have a high ceiling and lots of wide-open space, giving an airy feeling. But you can still achieve the look and maximise the feeling of space by installing clever storage systems to open up work surfaces. Rustic timber open shelving is a great option and will help you achieve a light, open atmosphere.

Prize Flexible Coil Sink Mixer

Inject some matte black

While industrial style kitchens are well known for using stainless steel in abundance, the use of matte black is coming more and more popular. It may be in the flooring, cabinetry, work surfaces, or furniture, but bold black accents.

Go big with your sink and mixer tap

When choosing the kitchen sink, the larger the better. Selecting a large sink will allow you lots of space to work in and can handle any commercial-sized mess you make! A traditional Belfast sink with a metallic twist is a great option as is a farmhouse sink (despite the name) as the straight sidewalls and flat bottom offer more usable space as well as appearing contemporary.

For the tap, a pull-out kitchen mixer tap is a perfect option for reaching the depths of the sink. You could choose a multi-function sink mixer such as our Vivid Slimline Multi Function Sink Mixer if you want to go all out with the industrial style.

Vivid Slimline Multi Function Sink Mixer

If you’re after something a little more stylish, a gooseneck sink mixer works really well – our Vivid Slimline SS Sink Mixer Gooseneck would work perfectly here – or if you still want the pull out function and want to embrace some matte black, our brand new Deja Pull Out Sink Mixer in a matte black finish would be another great choice.

Deja Sink Mixer

And finally…

You don’t have to boast all the elements of an industrial space to achieve the industrial look. You can still get the overall effect using the raw, unrefined, eclectic materials that define this style. Combine timber, concrete, steel and stone materials, or choose a statement piece of lighting or tapware to create a kitchen you’ll love.

The style is in the detail with this beautiful renovation by Attard’s Kitchens & Cabinetry. Despite the small space, the unique materials and minimalist style give the area an air of grandeur.

Although the kitchen is cosy in size, the clients wanted it to leave a lasting impact on whoever visited the space. This can be a challenge if the area is small as designers need to be very careful with placement and products so as not to reduce the amount of free space even further. Everything inside needs to have a purpose and the builders have executed this flawlessly.

What we truly love about this room is how complementary every element is to the other. The mix of light brown, grey and white throughout works in seamless harmony, providing a subtle neutral palette that’s pleasing to the eye without being overpowering.

Meanwhile, the use of organic materials — especially stone, timber veneer and brass — enhances the calm feeling that permeates every corner in the room, making the kitchen an ideal area for get-togethers and putting guests at ease when entertaining.

The architectural detail is reminiscent of opulent kitchens you’d normally see in the Hollywood homes of celebrities. Prior to the redesign, the space looked tired and unoriginal. But the renovation by Attard’s Kitchens & Cabinetry gave new life to the outdated area, utilising the beauty of clean lines and patterns to provide a luxurious yet relaxed feel.

The overall result is a neatly organised kitchen, where everything within has its place and purpose.

When you’ve got a view worth bragging about, the last thing you want to do is overpower it with a cluttered and distracting interior.

At least that’s what these clients believed when they built their home & kitchen in a majestic spot on the south coast of New South Wales.

Nestled into the hillside of a craggy coastline with north-facing views over the Pacific Ocean, this architecturally designed home makes the most of its picturesque surrounds with a clean-lined and quiet interior design. It offers durability and a natural colour palette befitting its coastal conditions. The clients were clear in their brief to designer Dean Welsh that the kitchen needed to withstand the wear and tear of many guests, provide casual seating that makes taking in the view an inviting prospect and make a subtle colour statement that reflects the natural environs.

Incorporated into the open-plan living layout desired by the owners, the kitchen is framed by white silk-lacquer-finished cabinetry with fingerprint-resistant technology. Reflecting the natural light that pours in through floor-to-ceiling windows on either side, the cabinetry resists the framing effect by blending with the walls to give the kitchen a sense of “floating” atop its cliffside location.

Timber-veneer highlight cabinets and island benchtop ground the space with a natural texture and warmth, as well as adding a little colour variation. Neolith Estatuario abuts the wood veneer on the other half of the island, adding texture and functionality with beautiful movement from the grey veining. Surrounding the cooktop, a 6mm-solid, scratch-resistant, stainless-steel benchtop offers the durability and low-maintenance elements the owners were looking for. White toughened glass was used for the splashback, which not only reflects the view but is cleaned up with a simple wipe when the cooking is done.

To maintain the clean lines and open feel of the kitchen, a butler’s pantry was installed behind the main kitchen. Featuring a wine fridge, second dishwasher, additional sink and plenty of prep space, this utility area helps keep the mess out of sight and the main kitchen free from clutter when the party gets going.

During this kitchen renovation, Melbourne Kitchens and Bathrooms worked closely with the owners to ensure homage was paid to the glory days of the entire residence.

The owners wanted to keep the stunning original features of the house including the timber floor, exposed brick and staircase during the kitchen renovation. Melbourne Kitchens and Bathrooms ensured this was done, pairing the old farmhouse aesthetic with a colourful, modernised finish.

The former kitchen was originally an enclosed room, so one of the main design considerations was removing the load-bearing wall to open the kitchen space to the dining area. The eye is immediately drawn to the coffered ceiling — a beautiful design addition that complements the space’s new open floorplan perfectly.

This kitchen transformation has also allowed for more natural light to enter the space, making it a more inviting environment for entertaining guests.

Subtle country features make an impact, from the exposed brick wall and farmhouse door to the coffee station and butler’s pantry. All of this is paired with striking blue cabinetry and brass hardware. This space is a true reflection of farmhouse living in suburbia thanks to Melbourne Kitchens and Bathrooms.
