A remarkable Italian village-style home with a high level of details that turn heads

Turrell Building made a major impact at the 2020 HIA-CSR NSW Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards, winning the overall NSW Region Renovation/Addition Project award and the Renovation/Addition $1.2 million–$3 million category for the home showcased here as well as the Best Large Bathroom Over 10sqm award for a different project at Galston. As a result of these achievements, Turrell Building now goes on to represent NSW at the 2021 National Awards in the Renovation/Addition category.

The winning renovation/addition project featured a stunning transformation in the semi-rural Arcadia area, turning a 60-year-old Mission-brown residential property into the spitting image of an Italian village. The property, owned by Arcadian locals Peter and Jenny Guest, pays the ultimate tribute to the passion and style of Italian culture, coupled with the region’s unique heritage.

The build required a very high level of detail in order to closely imitate a real Italian village, coupled with modern construction techniques to meet contemporary living standards. This has resulted in interior living spaces that are comfortable, safe and eco-friendly while the facade has an aged look and authentic character.

The detail of the finishes and the unique style sets this build apart from nearly every other home in Sydney, from the design of the traditional-looking florist shop, Italian-style trattoria, cobblestone laneway (which is actually an open-air hallway for the home), authentic terracotta roof tiles to the reuse of timber from the original home. The use of secondhand and mixed windows and doors couples with the changing flow of colours outside, which creates the illusion of multiple dwellings. What’s more, each bedroom and ensuite has its own unique style and decor.

The project that won the Best Large Bathroom Over 10sqm award is also a unique design, the vision of Turrell Building’s Managing Director, Neil Turrell. The bathroom’s extensive and tasteful use of stone and timber, while achieving a spacious, functional and stylish finish with clean lines and a feeling of opulence, impressed the judges.

“We are very gratified to have done so well at such a prestigious industry event. We have not entered the awards since 2006 when we won the Entertaining Area award. For a small local business to be recognised like this is testament to the passion we bring to everything we do, and the strong team we have built over the last 20 years,” says Neil.

Turrell Building is based in Galston but carries out projects in the Hills District, Upper North Shore and the Northern Beaches. The company specialises in quality new homes, renovations/additions and first-floor extensions.

“We have grown significantly in recent times and have found a strong niche in building mid- to high-level custom homes and extensive renovations for people who want highly functional but beautiful, well-blended spaces,” says Neil. “We also do alfresco areas and always try to pay tribute to the natural environment and use local materials.”

Italians are known for being market leaders when it comes to fashion and design, and the 3N1 Multitap from InSinkErator is no exception.

Coming in matt black with chrome finishes, and three different striking designs to suit kitchens ranging in style from contemporary to country, the 3N1 Multitap is sure to have a look that you will love. Not only that, but thanks to an  augmented reality app produced by this Italian market leader, you can picture the tap in your own kitchen, allowing you to get the look that’s right for you.

But this stunning piece of tapware is more than just another way to add style to your room. The InSinkErator delivers  steaming-hot water in a flash. This function is delivered thanks to the Neotank, a 2.5L tank that allows you to heat only what you need while conserving energy. You can receive water at temperatures of up to 98 degrees Celsius from the tank — that is as much as 20 per cent more energy efficient than a kettle, saving you both time and money.

Of course, the benefits don’t stop there. You can also use the same tap to receive regular cool and hot water, meaning you get to enjoy the functionality of this Italian beauty without compromising when it comes to style and benchtop clutter. There is also a push-lever safety-locking mechanism to ensure there are no kitchen accidents or burns.

In a world where time is one of our biggest commodities, it makes sense to invest in a system such as the 3N1 Multitap from InSinkErator. Not only will it make you more efficient, it will look good while doing so — what’s not to love about that?

Over the centuries, we have marvelled at how Italians have enhanced design and fashion, leaving their cultural mark on the world. We love the passion, craftsmanship and heritage put into everything they do, and now they are the creative drivers behind InSinkErator’s premium range of tapware — Multi Rubinetto, also known as Multitap.

Multitap is testament to the Italian commitment to outstanding practice, and InSinkErator is proud to be able to now offer instant steaming hot water as a function of a standard kitchen tap mixer. Designed and manufactured in Italy, this high-quality tap brings contemporary style to new and existing kitchen spaces.

The Multitap 3N1 is supported by InSinkErator’s next-generation Neotank. It features a compact design that is affixed to the cupboard wall conserving space usage. The 2.5L tank features a welded construction, eliminating seals to improve lifespan. It also allows you to heat only what you need while conserving energy for environmental stewardship.

To help introduce Multitap 3N1 to the Australian market, InSinkErator has partnered with award-winning chef, restaurateur and much-loved TV personality Guy Grossi. “What I love is the convenience of the Multitap,” says Guy. “Instant boiling water, combined with the regular hot and cold water, enables me to keep cooking, with what I need always at my fingertips.”

Well known for its innovative and quality products, ILVE’s new oven range is no exception. In consultation with Europe’s leading architects and designers, the company has created an exceptional collection that is intentionally timeless.

Technology is at the forefront of the range, which offers customers a new feature called CHEF-assist. This includes a colour TFT touch screen with a smart control panel available in 11 language settings and with more than 35 pre-set recipe modes. To make cooking even more enjoyable, the range also offers automatic cooking times, weight pre-sets and has the brilliant function of automatically changing recipes from Celsius to Fahrenheit, making temperature conversions easier than ever before.

Ensuring protection of your cabinetry, ILVE’s unique Tangential Ventilation System (TVS) smartly circulates air around and disengages when required, ensuring minimal energy consumption and maximum efficiency.
The range also includes a nickel-free enamel interior, which is not only easy to clean but also reduces the toxicity of the materials that come into contact with food. The oven doors are created with thermo-reflective glass to ensure a cool exterior is maintained as well as even cooking temperatures.

Offering more room than ever before, the ovens’ full-size glass doors provide a panoramic view of the internal cavity. The interiors contain no joins or welds, so there is nowhere for grease, fat and other cooking residues to hide, allowing for quicker and more thorough cleaning. Additionally, each oven has a removable back panel to give the user easy access to the fan, allowing for further easier cleaning and maintenance.
The easy-release telescopic oven side racks can be removed with just one hand and without the need of any tools. The racks are coated with a special metallic alloy to make them dishwasher safe, helping to cut down on cleaning time and clutter in your sink. With numerous other features and benefits, the built-in range from ILVE is priced from $1299 to $5299.
