To transform this unusually shaped and outdated kitchen, Kellyville Kitchens has utilised minimal, clean cabinetry and gorgeous Quantum Quartz Calacutta Quartz to achieve this fresh look.

“The previous kitchen had an unusually shaped island with a curved back. The doors were an outdated orange and brown timber laminate with black kickboards and black granite tops. The homeowners wanted to refresh this dated, dark kitchen into a light, modern and streamlined kitchen – without changing the footprint. More benchtop space was a must, as was a large appliance cupboard for subtle practicality. They wanted to replace the inefficient, odd-shaped cabinet with as many big drawers as possible.

The biggest challenge was to cover the existing footprint as the floors had recently been tiled throughout the living area. That would have been easy if the room was a regular shape. One side wall was on an angle so the new, straight cabinets had to be designed carefully so as to not close in the access too much.

This kitchen features straight lines, glossy white doors with fingergroove detailing, counterbalanced by the soft, elegant lines in the Calacutta Quartz benchtop and splashback. As the room is not a regular shape, the kitchen seems to change when looking at it from different angles.”

This kitchen project adds a touch of the traditional to an otherwise modern design, opening up a small space and maximising function

The previous kitchen was a dark poly kitchen occupying an L-shaped space with limited storage and a very small stainless steel island. The homeowner wanted to maximize storage and create an open-plan space where the family can interact while cooking or relaxing on the couch. One of the challenges of designing this kitchen was the limited number of spare floor tiles, something that was overcome by covering the floor and by opening up the space. The large island is extremely practical as a working bench and to offer an abundance of storage for the homeowners.

The continued use of Calacutta Blanco smart stone around the kitchen unites the space and provides a sense of elegance to the room. The steel tap offers a touch of the traditional, the lovely curved shape complementing the matt black mixer beside it. Mixing modernity into the area, the ILVE oven, cooktop and rangehood are perfect for heavy use of the space. The design is stunning, from the matching white handles to the clever design of the microwave shelf incorporated into the island.
