Once characterised by bright lime-coloured cabinetry and an awkward L-shaped layout, the original space felt disconnected and underutilised, failing to make the most of its generous ceiling height. Thanks to a clever reconfiguration and design thinking by the talented team at KIND kitchens, the space now focuses on calm cohesion, intelligent planning and family-focused living.

The homeowners’ brief centred on creating a serene yet highly functional kitchen that could effortlessly support cooking, dining and everyday family life. A generous central island is at the heart of the new design, conceived as both a practical work zone and a social hub. The island anchors the space and encourages connection while maintaining excellent circulation and workflow for the whole family.

The layout was thoughtfully reworked as a galley-style kitchen with the island positioned beneath existing skylights, flooding the room with natural light and creating a strong visual focal point. Full-height custom cabinetry with a continuous shadow line maximises storage while subtly accommodating ceiling variations, delivering a clean and intentional finish.

Material selection plays a key role in the kitchen’s quiet sophistication. Polytec Boston Oak Woodmatt cabinetry introduces warmth and texture, beautifully balanced by Caesarstone Sleet porcelain that envelops the benchtop and splashback. Twin waterfall island edges and a seamless porcelain shelf add depth and understated luxury without overwhelming the space.

Clever design details elevate daily living, including a pocket-door appliance bench that discreetly conceals the coffee machine and toaster, integrated pull-out bins and inner pantry drawers, and a dedicated study nook for the children complete with LED task lighting.

There’s a quiet confidence to this modern classic home – a sense of balance where tradition and innovation meet in soft, deliberate motion. What was once a boxy, high-gloss kitchen of white and grey has been reimagined into a space that breathes.

At the heart of the transformation is a sculptural curved island, finished in Polytec Society Oak Woodmatt, its warm timber grain wrapping seamlessly around an existing column now redefined as an architectural statement.

Above, a curvilinear panelled rangehood in two-pack continues the home’s graceful geometry, while floating shelves, natural stone benchtops and a full-height splashback add depth, tactility and a sense of permanence.

Every element has been thoughtfully considered, from the integrated pull-out bin and dishwasher to the concealed spice rack and bifold appliance pantry that keeps daily life effortlessly hidden. The effect is timeless and quietly confident, refined and deeply functional.

That same design language continues throughout the home, reinforcing connection and calm. In the living area, twin arched windows frame a natural stone fireplace, complemented by Shaker-style joinery and subtle brushed brass accents. The dining nook’s curved servery glows under recessed LED lighting, its finger-pull joinery echoing the kitchen’s softness and restraint.

Across the bathrooms and laundry, two-pack Shaker cabinetry, curved mirror cabinets and top-mount basins extend the home’s curved motif, while the custom robes and children’s study areas pair glass-fronted drawers and LED lighting with thoughtful, everyday practicality.

Structural irregularities, like uneven floors and non-linear walls, became opportunities for KIND Kitchens’ designers to demonstrate their precision. Each curve and shadow line was measured, shaped and refined to achieve perfect proportion, allowing craftsmanship to guide the architecture rather than follow it.

The result is a home that feels both anchored and alive. Classic yet contemporary, structured yet fluid.

The kitchen has been dramatically transformed into a modern masterpiece for cooking, entertaining, and everyday family life.

Originally segmented into three zones – including a pantry-like cooking area with open shelving – the old kitchen felt narrow, disjointed and visually heavy. To alter this, the homeowners requested a more open space with improved storage and more cohesive flow with the rest of the home. Importantly, the homeowners wanted to be able to cook and entertain here without being cut off from the rest of the home.

The design and build team took this into consideration, resulting in this thoughtfully designed space that balances clean lines with clever functionality.

To achieve a sleek, contemporary look, the kitchen features handle-less finger-pull doors in Acrilam Moro and Verde Olive Super Matt finishes, plus a warm Polytec Notaio Walnut Ravine finish inside the concealed coffee nook. The Häfele pocket door allows the nook to be tucked away seamlessly, while bifold doors were utilised to make corner cabinets more accessible inside the walk-in pantry.

Design ingenuity is on full display with a curved cabinet concealing the undermount rangehood, and strategically integrated structural columns that have been effortlessly woven into the cabinetry. The Neolith Zimbabwe porcelain benchtops and splashback in a Riverwashed finish offer durability with tactile elegance.

Premium features such as BLUM Servo-Drive for the rubbish bin, BLUM Tandembox drawers, a pull-out SIGE pantry and integrated dishwashers make the space both beautiful and highly practical.

This renovation has brought to life a harmonious, open-plan kitchen and pantry. The new space meets the homeowners’ aesthetic vision and functional needs perfectly, proving that thoughtful design can completely reinvent how a space is used and enjoyed.
