Cleveland isn’t quite where you would expect a Kardashian to nest in the lead up to her baby’s birth, but Khloe Kardashian appears to have settled in quite well. It’s not surprising really, given the fact that she gets to live in this beautiful waterfront home.

Khloe Kardashian home

Originally purchased by Khloe’s partner, NBA player Tristan Thompson, for $1.9 million in December 2015, the four bedroom, three bathroom home has sweeping view of the beautiful Lake Erie. Khloe has revealed that one of the home’s rooms will be turned into a nursery for their newborn baby girl.

The pad boasts approximately 6,424 square feet of living space, a wine cellar and a luxurious kitchen with a breakfast bar that looks out to the lakeside views. We absolutely love the ceiling feature and aquarium, which both add character to their living room with a view!

Born through a collaboration between two of design’s biggest forces, DELAKTIG is set to be a hit when released in Australia in April.

With homes becoming smaller comes the need for better-planned places and versatile furniture pieces that can be converted and customised with ease to accommodate for changes in living circumstances. IKEA and Tom Dixon wanted to explore what this meant for upholstered furniture, when designing this new range.

IKEA

IKEA

IKEA

With DELAKTIG, IKEA and Tom Dixon wanted to challenge the norms of seating production as it is today. The Swedish term DELAKTIG translates to ‘being involved’ in English, and the range will encourage people to do just that. Affordable, with a beautiful aesthetic, long lasting and democratic were just a few of the boxes that had to be ticked. Built on aluminium frames, the range will allow for endless personalisation through flexibility and clip-on items such as side tables and lamps. Armrests can be added and removed, side tables converted to workstations in just moments, and the entire feel and function of a room can be changed with minimal effort by reassembling the furniture pieces.

IKEA

“The living room in particular is a space that is becoming increasingly multifunctional and fluid,” Tiffany Buckins, Head of Interior Design for IKEA Australia, says of the range. “With the ever increasing demands on the home such as urbanisation and technology, new ranges like DELAKTIG meet the needs of our homes today and are adaptable for the needs of the future.”

DELAKTIG is due to be released in Australia in April, so stay tuned!

The Block 2017: Living and Dining Room Week Begins! https://www.completehome.com.au/interiors/block-2017-living-dining-room-week.html Tue, 29 Aug 2017 05:10:58 +0000 https://www.completehome.com.au/?p=38425 Amidst the drama and beautiful design, The Block is providing renovators and interior enthusiasts with some valuable tips.

The post The Block 2017: Living and Dining Room Week Begins! appeared first on Completehome.

]]>
This week has gotten to a very busy start on The Block, with the Blockheads devoting their time and energy into completing the new extensions at the back. They’re starting with the living and dining spaces, which ideally need to blend seamlessly with both the heritage if the front section of the homes, and well as the very contemporary extensions up the back.

The Block Ronnie and Georgia

We’re loving the plans made by each couple so far, and can’t wait till the reveals. We’ve also noticed some great lessons for renovators midst all the drams and beautiful design. Here are a few tips from the first episode of Living and Dining Room  Week on The Block:

  • Sticking to your budget is so, SO important! Jason and Sarah are currently contemplating spending a third of the budget for the space on a suspended fireplace. While it will be stunning, spending such a huge proportion on just one product isn’t the wisest thing to do during a renovation.
  • Finalise your colour scheme before you go shopping for furniture and accessories. We feel that Wombat’s shopping trip probably wasn’t as productive as it could have been, given that he had no idea what colour his chairs needed to be.
  • Plan your plumbing. The Blockheads are currently renovating space which will ultimately be directly under an ensuite, which will require plumbing. By planning ahead, they can ensure that the necessary plumbing can go ahead without affecting their competed living and dining spaces.
  • Think about placement. Placing as wine rack near a fireplace, for example, will lead to warm, spoiled wine.
  • Consider the structural integrity of the building, when designing your space. Purchasing or installing a fixture that is too heavy for the building’s structure could end up being a very costly mistake.

Stay tuned for more on Living and Dining Room Week!

The underdogs scored a worthy win this week on The Block, with their exquisite second living room.

All of this week’s rooms were incredibly impressive, but Hannah and Clint’s living room was our favourite from the beginning, and we’re so glad this couple finally received the highest score this week! A peek inside each of the gorgeous spaces below:

Clint and Hannah: 28.5/30

The underdogs experienced a few headaches early on this week, perhaps the worst being the realisation that the room’s cornice wasn’t accounted for when purchasing the floor-to-ceiling cabinets. The cabinets ultimately had to be shelved, and replacements found.

Despite this, Clint and Hannah bounced back and put together a winning living room, featuring a bar, casual seating and a Jetmaster fireplace.

The Block

Needless to say, it was very well received from the judges—they loved the drama and glamour of the room and were particularly impressed by the central fireplace, which made the entire room feel cosy and welcoming.

Josh and Elyse: 26.5/30

A close second this week, this couple’s study was the personification of zen and loved by all the judges. Though the study was a bit space challenged, they managed to fit in a daybed, wooden desk, chair and the most gorgeous floor-to-ceiling library wall, which was custom-built by Josh.

Jason and Sarah: 21/30

This couple’s simple, classy, living space was relatively well-received, and the judges praised the couple for their execution. However, the judges felt a little overwhelmed by the ceiling details, and somewhat underwhelmed by the floor-level details.

Sticks and Wombat: 21/30

This pair’s very small office space included feature timber shelving handcrafted by Sticks, and a state-of-the-art desk which allows for both standing and sitting, which the judges absolutely loved. They weren’t swayed by the Lime Sherbet coloured walls though… and neither were we. The judges also noted that the size of the space, or lack thereof, could become a problem come auction day.

Ronnie and Georgia: 21/30

The judges were not too impressed with this couple’s living room, which featured a fireplace façade, a TV hidden behind a sliding panel, and dark walls. While the judges acknowledged that the dark walls were a bold choice, they felt the space had no elegance and was not right for the house or the area – Neale even compared it to a bad nightclub.

This week, The Blockheads were presented the task of renovating any room but a bedroom, giving them a little freedom to be creative and use their strengths to their advantage.  They’ve also been told to complete cladding the exterior of each house, and finish the weatherboarding as well.

We’re loving the plans the Blockhead have hatched for their rooms so far, and are pretty excited to see the spaces completed! In the meantime, though, we’ve done a little research into furniture pieces and products we think would work beautifully in rooms similar to those currently being renovated by The Blockheads.

Sticks and Wombat

The Block’s resident lovable larrikins decided to turn their tiny space into an office of sorts—a wise decision, given how small the space is. They’re planning to include custom bookshelves in their office space, as well as an adjustable desk with storage.

We hunted around and found this gorgeous desk. While it isn’t adjustable, we feel it is perfect for a small office space, allows for shelves and storage cubes to be installed onto the wall it is facing.

Clint and Hannah

Clint and Hannah badly need to start scoring well, and hope that this week is the week this begins. They’ve planned an informal, secondary lunge room for their space this week, and we feel this might be the week they score a good result! So far, they have planned to include a comfy lounge, a mounted TV and a focal gas fireplace in their informal living room.

Gas fireplaces have the tendency to increase the aesthetic appeal of a space, and are incredibly useful come winter. We absolutely love the Real Flame Element 1200 gas log fireplace, and think it would be perfect for a second living room.

Ronnie and Georgia

Fresh from their Kids Bedroom win, Ronnie and Georgia took a little time out to enjoy their win and relax before getting back into their duties at The Block. Once they got back, they quickly started planning their second lounge room, complete with a decorative fireplace, hidden TV and a lounge.

Decorative fireplaces are ideal for those who are renovating a historic house and want traces of its heritage to remain, but don’t want to deal with the mess of a chimney and associated soot. We love the one pictured below!

Elyse and Josh

This couple has decided to put together a library themed study this week, with open shelving, bookcases, and plenty of natural light via yet another skylight. They’re planning for it to be a zen room of sorts, and we can’t wait to see what the room looks like when complete.

We love the idea of a library-inspired study, especially for a home with school-aged children. We feel the additional of a decorative shelving unit as pictured below would be ideal for such a space, to ensure the space is beautiful as well as functional.

Jason and Sarah

Jason and Sarah chose to build a second living area this week, which the kids can use as well. They’ve settled for cabinetry surrounding the tv, and a comfortable lounge for the space.

A comfortable lounge is an absolute necessity for a second lounge room, especially as this kind of space is one which would be used for a lazy TV viewing session and weeknight relaxing. We think a comfy lounge like the below is exactly what this kind of space needs!

Stay tuned for our thoughts on the room reveals!
