Impeccably built and demonstrating a high level of detail, this refined display home offers families a life of luxury

Boasting a classical yet modern facade and an interior designed for luxurious yet casual living, this exquisite new display home from Buildcraft Constructions perfectly showcases the custom builder’s design and construction expertise and eye for detail.

Located in Bella Vista, a bourgeoning community north-west of Sydney, the display home was designed with both comfortable family living and easy entertaining in mind. “The front portion of the house is designed for entertaining guests and features a luxurious area for socialising or relaxing. The front foyer also makes a wonderful first impression. As visitors step over the threshold, their eyes are drawn to the large, light-filled entry void and the statement wrought-iron staircase,” says John Ugarkovic, Director, Buildcraft Constructions.

“The family area of the house features a large kitchen with an enormous island bench and butler’s pantry which is spacious enough to accommodate the needs of any sized family. There is also a wine cellar located off the kitchen, ensuring you will have everything you
need right at hand when entertaining.

“Designed for comfortable everyday living, the family area caters for every mood and social situation. You can sit back and relax on the lounge or stroll out to the large alfresco area, with its unobstructed view of the swimming pool, and share good food and good conversation with friends. The four bedrooms are upstairs, providing privacy from the downstairs entertaining areas.”

Buildcraft’s thoughtful design includes a large study on the ground floor that is perfect for work-from-home professionals. This well-positioned space could also be used as guest accommodation if need be, delivering the kind of flexibility the modern family demands.

Only high-end materials were used in the construction of this home, each chosen for its quality, durability and value for money. “The timber flooring, laid in a classic herringbone pattern, and porcelain tile floors complement each other and ensure the formal areas and living areas feel seamless as you walk around the home,” says John. “Full-height porcelain tiles were used in the wet areas to showcase a clean, modern look while all joinery items were designed and built using custom materials.”

The same attention was lavished on the home’s imposing yet welcoming facade. The landscaping completes the picture and ensures the home makes a grand first impression.
Buildcraft Constructions is an award-winning design and construct custom home builder with over 50 years’ experience building custom-designed homes. At Buildcraft, the company’s owners are personally involved in each project and take a hands-on approach.

Says John, “We are defined by our commitment to client-focused, innovative design, coupled with an awareness of current and future residential building trends. Our personal involvement from initial concept stage through to completion of construction ensures each home showcases the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.”

Australia – traditionally the land of wide open spaces and spacious homes – now faces increasing real estate prices and the need to live in a more sustainable way.

We now have the important opportunity to think about how we use the space we have.

Downsizing?  Seeking a more efficient and sustainable way of living?

Flexibility is now the answer – you do not have to sacrifice living space for comfortable living spaces for guests and family.

Furniture now needs to ‘multitask’ – to be able to take on more than one function.

When you don’t need a dining table for 12 people – all the time; or a bed for the occasional guest – all the time… it provides choices- pack away the furniture when it is not needed and use your space in a more flexible way.

Fold Out Furniture

Recent moves to working from home under COVID has also meant we have looked at our use of space more critically – a guest bed that also has a desk is far more useful than a room full of just a guest bed… a table that elevates to be a work surface also allows for multitasking.

So whether you have a commercial need; a growing family, a new hobby, or are now working from home,  we have the perfect solution in transformable and multifunctional furniture for you.

Fold Out Furniture have showrooms in Richmond, Melbourne and in Hobart so you can experience the furniture for yourself. Bookings are required – please call: 0499 99 9931

Day or night, these intelligently designed outdoor spaces provide the homeowners with multiple living options

In the hands of the right designer, a steeply sloping backyard isn’t a problem — it’s an opportunity to create something unique and bespoke. Here, Nick McCarthy, head designer and director of Urban Escape Landscaping & Pools, has taken a once unloved and unused precipitous rear garden and transformed it into a multi-level, multi-functional outdoor escape.

“The goal was to provide multiple spaces for entertaining, introduce a swimming pool and create a level rear lawn. The main entertaining area had to be covered and equipped for alfresco cooking and relaxing, there needed to be a deck attached to the house for day-to-day use, and an inviting pool zone that could be used for family fun or entertaining guests,” explains Nick.

Outdoor living space

Comfort and convenience

These were the bywords when designing and equipping the pavilion-style, solid-roofed main entertaining area. There is an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue, bar fridge and plenty of bench space, a ceiling fan for cooling down, a patio heater for warming up and stylish outdoor seating.

“The multiple levels of the new garden design hide the significant slope while simultaneously providing a selection of inviting, usable outdoor areas, each linked with steps. Each space is distinct but the flow is seamless,” says Nick. The upper deck next to the house, an inviting space used for dining and everyday living, steps down to an expanse of paving that delivers you to the slightly elevated pavilion. From the paved area, one set of steps leads you down to the pool; another takes you to the lush green lawn the kids use as a play zone.

For the house-level deck and timber pool surrounds, Urban Escape used spotted gum. For the paving and pool coping, Nick employed travertine. The use of these contrasting but complementary natural materials brings visual warmth to the outdoor spaces. To ensure uninterrupted views around the pool, which was also built by Urban Escape, there is glass fencing.

The Green Thumb

When selecting the plants for this project, Nick drew on his horticultural expertise to create a plant palette perfectly tailored to match the growing conditions, the amount of time the home owners had to devote to maintenance, and the outdoor design. Highlights of the planting scheme include a cluster of giant bird of paradise to one side of the pool along with a feature frangipani, colourful cordylines, clipped coastal rosemary and drifts of native grasses.

Urban Escape began as a structural landscape company with a clear but simple vision of creating quality and stylish gardens to suit its clients’ needs. Owner Nick holds a science degree in horticulture and landscape design, and shortly after starting a landscaping business he was inspired to become a licensed pool builder.

“There was a tendency to put pools where the client said, without thinking it through, or even to just put it where it was easiest for the builder, rather than best for the outcome,” explains Nick. “That is essentially why I got into building pools — so I could be sure our pool was put in the best location to work. Sometimes an architect just draws a rectangle and that is it. A swimming pool is a big item and needs to be integrated and thought through so it works with the landscape.”

Urban Escape

The Boutique company has now been an integral part of Sydney’s landscaping and pool industry for more than 25 years. Urban Escape offers a holistic approach to outdoor design, from consultation and design to council submissions, maintenance, landscaping construction as well as pool/spa construction, resulting in a seamless and stress-free process for clients.

The company prides itself on its personalised service, limiting its clientele to those in the Sydney metro area, creating and renovating between 10 and 15 pools per year and going through a lengthy consultation process to achieve a comprehensive brief prior to design work. Urban Escape has been recognised for its quality workmanship and has received many awards, both local and national, for its pools and gardens.
