The use of dark and light large-format tiles to give this bathroom a sense of grand proportion

“The clients’ main brief was to create a more spacious, contemporary bathroom to accommodate their changing needs. The feature wall of dark, large-format tiles, with white gloss tiles for the side walls, creates a sense of grandeur in the room.

The wall-hung vanity was designed to make the room feel more spacious, while the textured oak veneer of the panels acts as a feature. The clients’ fell in love with the Kado Arc freestanding bath, which then dictated the style of basin and tapware to ensure a harmonious design. The original 1980s bathroom lacked natural light and ventilation so we installed a new window with an awning.

This modern bathroom was the winner of multiple awards at the 2014 KBDi Awards, and also won the KBDi and Kitchens & Bathrooms Quarterly Inaugural People’s Choice Award Bathroom Design of the Year 2014.”

White can be a beautiful colour to use in bathroom designs. We take a look at five favourites:

Contrasted with the timber door frame, this white and glass bathroom is perfectly contemporary. The view out to a small private courtyard is especially stylish and relaxing.

White and aquamarine work sublimely here: a crisp white used in the base colours with the aqua as a feature. Perfect.

This traditional californian bungalow uses white in a traditional context. Against black and white floor tiling and botanical stained glass windows, this is a knock out.

The large open space in this couples shower is perfect – complemented by the entirely white space, this bathroom design is exquisite.

This modern bathroom uses a white palette with mirrors perfectly. Expanding the space and used in a contemporary fashion, the mirrors are a fantastic design addition.

This fresh and inviting bathroom was designed to suit a growing family, so an open space with functional elements was a must

“This fresh and inviting bathroom was designed to suit a growing family, so an open space with functional elements was a must. A large bath, shower and vanity area were chosen to meet the needs of the whole family. The clients said they did not want the toilet suite to be a feature, but the room itself was not large enough to build a false wall to house a concealed cistern. Instead, we went for a clever layout and nib wall to hide the toilet for privacy.

The original 1980s bathroom had become very outdated and featured an oversized corner spa that took up most of the room, so to meet the key design brief of an open-feel bathroom we replaced this with a space-saving, modern freestanding bath.

This new layout provides a successful example of effective space planning and the touches of luxury ensure it is a special place to relax.”

Intelligent design and an innovative approach have turned this simple bathroom, by LJT Bathrooms, into something special

Like a Hollywood starlet 20 years past her prime, the bathroom in this grand home was in need of a makeover. With outdated fixtures and fittings, it was time to revamp the space, located in the leafy Sydney suburb of Pymble. With little knowledge of where to start the renovating process, the homeowners called on the expertise of Lynette Tebbenhoff from LJT Bathrooms to help create their new space. “They needed assistance with all the selections, colours and design,” Lynette says. “Both the powder room and bathroom were to have the same theme and colours and allow for the owners’ special needs.” Also on the bathroom wish list were a free-standing bath, walk-in shower, plenty of storage options and custom-made products.

In terms of design challenges, Lynette says the main problem to overcome was the limited amount of space. “The powder room had minimum space and the bathroom had to allow enough space to enter the shower and bath. The vanities had to be custom made to fit and to ensure all storage needs were met,” she says. Stepping into the new bathroom, you’re immediately struck by the unique colour scheme. The olive-green metallic floors provide a point of interest, while vertical strips of mixed glass mosaics add a stylish touch. Specially acquired mirrors with a metallic-themed design concept complement the unique glass tops of the vanities. The large walk-in shower has glass features to match these glass tops and the beautiful floor tiles.

From every angle, this space simply oozes effortless elegance and sophisticated style. “The colour scheme and metallic looks are very glamorous and the overall finish is really something special,” says Lynette.

A small space was no deterrent to creating a functional bathroom with designer style

Working with a smaller space can sometimes be a challenge, but not so for the designer of this stunning bathroom. Janine Izzo from Brilliant SA has created a beautifully light area which makes the most of every spare centimetre.

A frameless glass panel is a great choice for the combined bath/shower, allowing light and air to stream through and around the structure. The handy recessed shelf has been positioned so it is accessible from both bath and shower, saving on space and adding a functional element at the same time.

Of particular note is the switchable glass window which can be left as see-through when the bathroom is not in use but, at the push of a button turns opaque to provide privacy when needed.
The designer has packed an incredible amount of storage into this bathroom with a wall-hung, two-drawer vanity, recessed shelf and almost full-length mirrored cabinet. In contrast to the crisp white tiles throughout, the vanity is constructed from Polytec ‘Shannon Oak’ for a lovely warm touch. The Villeroy & Boch above-counter basin adds to the floating effect.

The owners can bathe in style with the luxurious Methven Amio shower head and Grohe diverter mixer. Further space has been saved with the addition of a wall-faced pan toilet with concealed cistern.

How clever: switchable glass in the window gives the owners privacy when desired but allows natural light to flow through at other times.
