The beauty of a new build is that you begin with a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless, and the team behind this gorgeous project really took that to heart during the design stage.
Colours, textures and materials play a big role in this project’s success. The homeowner, who is originally from New Zealand, loved the raw, textured look of the Nikpol Halifax Oak, so this was incorporated into various elements of the space. A laundry and butler’s pantry were integrated into the space behind the main kitchen to increase the area’s functionality.
These additional rooms were designed to promote good flow between the spaces, as well as the alfresco area. Though the homeowner was interested in using black materials for this project, she was concerned it would darken the space. Moss-coloured anti-fingerprint laminate was chosen instead. Its dark forest-green hue helps to bring elements of outdoor natural greenery into the kitchen. Black detail was introduced via shadowlines, finger-pulls and kick faces to create contrast.
The homeowner wanted the kitchen to be earthy and lineal. This has been presented in the design by the recessed handle detail wrapping around the base cabinet end, the lineal timber grain textures and the surround details that protrude from the cupboard fronts. These small elements, together with the complementary colours and textures, have succeeded in giving this kitchen the wow factor it deserves.
