Designed for repeat clients planning to downsize within five years, this ensuite renovation by Inspired Interiors aimed to deliver everyday luxury as well as lasting real estate appeal. The brief was to transform an oversized, poorly configured space into a calm, contemporary retreat that would eventually become a selling feature when the homeowners are ready to downsize.
With the existing perimeter walls, ceiling, window and door openings locked in place, the design challenge was to completely rethink the interior without altering the existing envelope.
The solution was a bold reconfiguration, including a new T-wall to divide the area into private WC and shower spaces while preserving generous room for a bespoke double vanity and freestanding bath. Dividing the room smartly ultimately created a greater sense of scale and intimacy. Repeated arches establish a cohesive architectural language, while the enlarged shower incorporates a curved seat and dual shower outlets. A dedicated WC vanity adds practicality via storage space, as well as considered colour and contrast.
The bathroom’s disciplined material palette aims to impress. Taj Mahal quartzite, customised microcement, travertine-inspired and chalky textured tiles, linear mosaics and pecan-stained cabinetry create a rich interplay of texture within a softly neutral palette. Bronze tapware, alabaster lighting and frosted glass introduce warmth and refinement, adding to the room’s sophisticated appeal.
Lighting was paramount to this design, from the concealed T-wall uplighting that gently washes the ceiling to the illuminated mirrors and under-vanity LEDs. They work together beautifully to create flexibility for different moods and routines.
Every detail was executed with precision by the talented design and build team, including complex aspects like water-jet cutting and millimetre-perfect tile and microcement junctions. Underfloor heating, heated towel rails, Zetr outlets, Australian-made tapware, natural stone, large-format tiles and custom mirrors have been expertly integrated into the design to complete this quietly luxurious sanctuary that’s bound to stay contemporary for years to come.
