Luxe Ceramics: Tile Merchants & Renovation Specialists reimagined a loft apartment’s combined bathroom and laundry to suit its new role as an Airbnb.
The original layout was inefficient, with a laundry tucked inside the bathroom, limited circulation, and outdated fixtures that clashed with the apartment’s contemporary design. The renovation separated the space into two fully functional zones: a streamlined bathroom and a dedicated laundry, both designed to cater to short- and long-term guests while reflecting the loft’s unique aesthetic.
In the bathroom, clean, contemporary lines and an organic colour palette create a calm yet sophisticated atmosphere. Lagos Verde tiles supplied by Luxe Ceramics form a subtle feature, their gentle colour variations harmonising with brushed antique brass tapware. Storage and circulation were carefully reworked, with curves introduced into the vanity and the arched shower entryway to optimise movement in the compact footprint. The curved shower opening eliminates the need for a glass screen, reducing maintenance – a practical decision well suited to an Airbnb environment.
The laundry received equal attention, with clever cabinetry design and durable finishes ensuring the space is tidy and functional under frequent use. Converting the former linen cupboard into a fully operational laundry also allowed the shower recess to expand, demonstrating a thoughtful approach to the apartment’s structural limitations. Semi-fixed plumbing and spiral staircase access were approached as design opportunities rather than obstacles, informing material and fixture choices that prioritise durability, ease of installation and guest convenience.
Materiality ties both areas together while complementing the loft’s industrial, mid-century modern character. Matt surfaces, muted greige tones, and subtle textures balance the bolder green of the feature tiles and the warm glow of brushed antique brass. Every element was carefully selected to enhance the guest experience while minimising ongoing maintenance.
Completed within a strict three-and-a-half-week timeframe, the renovation resolves functional challenges while elevating the space’s everyday experience. Both bathroom and laundry now feel purposeful, elegant, and fully integrated into the loft’s design narrative, ensuring guests enjoy a seamless, stylish and practical environment.
