Esteemed WA designer Kimberley Swinyard has been crowned the Designer of the Year at the inaugural 2022 Hart & Co. Kitchen and Laundry design awards Presented by Smeg.
Kimberley Swinyard of husband-and-wife duo at Studio Atelier was awarded the prestigious Designer of the Year title for her innovative and family friendly kitchen design, which also took out the Kitchen Design Excellence (over $60,000) category.
The winner received a $5,000 cash prize and the honour of being on the cover of the Hart &
Co. Magazine, which pays homage to WA kitchen and laundry design in an 84-page publication full of WA’s leading creatives, including a mix of local designers, award entrants and winners. The annual magazine is distributed as an exclusive resource to Hart & Co. customers.
The Hart & Co. Kitchen and Laundry Design Awards presented by Smeg is the first independent industry awards in WA, and was created by the iconic retailer to put a spotlight on WA’s most talented architects, designers, builders and cabinet makers. Swinyard was chosen out of 18 finalists across six categories by an esteemed judging panel, consisting of Photographer, Editor and Founder of Havenist Jody D’Arcy, national award-winning building designer Shayne Le Roy, Owner and Director of Renew Renovations and Building, Dean Beament, and Architect and Academic, Justin Owen.
Hart & Co. Executive Chairman, Rick Hart said he was delighted at how well the inaugural
awards were embraced by WA designers and the wider community. He said the Studio Atelier project impressed the judges with its highly refined design. “The kitchen exudes luxury with a contemporary interpretation of a more classical look. The beautiful space ticks all the boxes when it comes to functionality, entertaining, style and timeless design,” Mr Hart said.
“Studio Atelier successfully catered to the clients’ love of cooking and entertaining, while also being family friendly. Functionality was key for this family’s design, while also ensuring the kitchen worked harmoniously with the rest of the home.
“Overall, the awards were a great success, providing an excellent opportunity to shine the spotlight on some of the most talented designers in the country, who are located right here in WA.”
The event was hosted in Hart & Co.’s immersive state of the art showroom in Osborne Park with 200 guests across the design industry in attendance.
