With specific requirements for position, privacy and entertainment, these clients in south-eastern Sydney designed their own modern rectangular pool. Like many homeowners, they juggle very busy work schedules, so they requested a pool that would allow them to truly enjoy their free time with the family at home.

They gave their plans to the team at Jade Swimming Pools, who then fine-tuned them for construction. To create the concrete and reinforced-steel design, the Jade team was faced with tight access and construction on site. “Due to tight access, the 6.5m-long pool was dug via hand excavation,” explain John and Matthew Daniel of Jade Swimming Pools. “Getting the details right for local council with regards to privacy of the clients and neighbours was another challenge that we faced.”

Surrounded by luxurious limestone, this modern rectangular pool that will stand the test of time and provide years of pleasure for the family. At Jade Swimming Pools, providing clients with their vision is a key ingredient to the company’s many years of success. Through in-depth consultations using 3D imaging, the team visually walk clients through their dream pool area before it is even built, ensuring the finished product remains true to its surroundings and the client’s needs.

This approach has seen Jade Swimming Pools win several SPASA and Master
Builders Association awards over the years
at metropolitan, state and national levels, including an incredible 11 accolades in 2018 at the SPASA NSW and ACT Awards. Most recently, at the 2021 SPASA NSW and ACT Awards for Excellence, Jade was the Gold winner for Residential Water Feature and Concrete Commercial Pool up to $250,000, and received Highly Commended awards for In-ground Concrete Spa and Residential Lighting Feature. Jade was also highly commended for the Innovative Project category at the 2020 SPASA NSW and ACT Awards for Excellence.

John and Helen Daniel started Jade Swimming Pools and their son Matthew is now part of the team. The company currently builds between 50 and 60 pools a year due to a high volume over the past 12 months. Specific areas of construction range from the
lower Blue Mountains to the Eastern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Hawkesbury, Western Suburbs and Inner West.

Jade specialises in family pools by creating the dream and bringing it to life, regardless of site difficulty, limited access, varying terrains or other site conditions. “After contract signing, we look at the quickest option for arranging approvals and plans (unless already approved, which occurs
in some instances),” explains the Jade Pools team. “Our aim is to start the excavation process within one to two weeks of approvals and
after the excavation, steelwork, plumbing and concreting, the shell sits for up to four weeks
for curing before the cosmetic finishes to the pool commence. During the cosmetic stage, we install filtration and heating (if specified) and
the fencing is then installed/approved prior to the final finish being applied to the interior. In some instances, the clients will be building a new home and the pool is put on hold while the house is constructed. Then we return to finish the pool after the house is handed over.”

Jade Swimming Pools is a member of SPASA (NSW and ACT), the Housing Industry Association of NSW and the Master Builders Association of NSW.

The post A modern rectangular pool was perfect to create an outdoor retreat appeared first on Completehome.

To maximise use of the swimming pool the homeowners opted to install this stunning manually operated Shaderunner®, neatly spanning between existing buildings. Each Shaderunner® is custom designed to suit the application, with this system being 5.5m wide and extending out 11m. This provides 60 sqm of retractable shade and UV coverage to the full extent of the pool, including the deck adjacent to the house. The Outlook polyester mesh in black perfectly complements this stunning contemporary home, providing a functional yet aesthetically pleasing shade solution.

The owners elected to have the manually operated Shaderunner®, which features an easy-to-use endless looped cord system with tie off horn cleat. Increasing in popularity is the option to motorise the Shaderunner® with an RTS remote controlled Somfy motor housed in a powdercoated slimline headbox.

The Shaderunner® Retractable Sail provides the ultimate convenience for enjoying outdoor spaces in the Australian climate. Controllable shade enables the user to manipulate the amount of shading required.  During summer the Shaderunner® can be fully extended to provide maximum shade, UV protection and thermal comfort on demand. In the cooler months the system can be retracted back, enabling winter sun to be maximised making the most of the available light and consequent solar gains to warm the pool water. Users of this great swimming pool can now enjoy shade and UV protection whilst relaxing or exercising as and when required.

So when designing an outdoor area, entertaining space or swimming pool, practical shading should be at the forefront of the design process. A well designed space should consider shading, and in particular retractable shading. The combined effect of reducing the impact of the sun during the summer and making the most of available light and warmth in the winter not only enables greater usage of outdoor spaces but can also aid with passive solar design strategies.

The Shaderunner® Retractable Sail System is ideally suited for a range of applications around the home, from outdoor entertaining spaces and patios to swimming pools and courtyards. With a wide range of fabrics and colour options available, the Shaderunner® complements all architectural styles, from contemporary suburban homes to traditional country residences. A wide range of support options available for the Shaderunner® which can be installed between walls, to an existing or purpose-built pergola, house fascias or support posts.

The Shaderunner® is manufactured from a range of rigorously tested fabrics, from 95% Polyester Mesh to Waterproof PVC. Each fabric is mould resistant and offers protection from glare and the sun’s harmful rays, with a wide range of colours available. Constructed using only the most durable marine grade yacht fittings and Ronstan ball bearing pulleys, the Shaderunner® Retractable Sail provides years of trouble-free shading with minimal maintenance. The unique qualities of the Shaderunner® enable it to be utilised for a multitude of applications, from the smallest domestic setting right up to large span commercial projects, such as aquatic parks and hotels.

With distributors available in each state, the Shaderunner® is available throughout Australia.

Far more than just a simple pool and spa, this modern project provides a stunning visual element for a Brighton home. The L shaped pool and spa duo is essentially part of the home and offers a connection to it all year round from the living and entertaining zones.

“A pool should be cohesive with the home so when you’re not using it, it still provides an atmosphere of relaxation,” says Adam Moore, owner of Swimmore Pools. “It should be functional to the needs of its owners and also provide a value add to the property.”

The homeowners, a family with primary school-aged children, requested that their pool and spa make best use of their available space. “They wanted to achieve the maximum waterline between the house and boundary for the pool suitable for a family, and a design to include a spa in their entertaining zone for year-round use,” says Adam. “They also envisaged a visual to their double-sided fireplace from inside the spa to create a relaxing ambience.”

Created on a flat 530sqm block, this was a complex build, with limited access for excavation as the 7.8m-long pool was excavated and constructed after the extension. The builder had made provisions to the house slab that allowed this to happen. “We also had to consider protection works for the neighbouring property and ensure they were comfortable with the solution we were providing,” says Adam. “They were wonderful throughout this process.”

The pool features a Paramount Ultra Clear system that kills 99.9 per cent of micro-organisms for a clean, family-friendly and eco-friendly pool using up to 80 per cent less harmful chemicals. In addition, a Viron Connect 10 system allows the user to automate and control their entire swimming pool environment from a smartphone, tablet or computer.

Regardless of the time of year, this L shaped pool and spa are enjoyed year-round — from the water or from inside the house.

After being presented with a steep front yard that slopes approximately 6m from the front door down to the front gate, there was a clear solution for the Rogers Pools’ team when designing this pool — a custom-designed, out-of-the-ground concrete pool. Sitting approximately 2.5m above ground, the resulting terraced rectangular pool with step-out truly suits the slope and maximises the site.

Situated in Hamilton, Brisbane, the 5m-long pool and spillway edge is fully tiled in stunning glass Bisazza mosaics. It’s also fully automated and app controlled, including the on-demand spillway edge. In addition to the pool, Rogers Pools designed and built the retaining walls around the pool, the concrete concourse and the blackbutt timber deck, steps and seat. A hidden filtration system is also nestled under the decking — the perfect example of out of sight and out of mind for these Queensland homeowners.

Peter Rogers started Rogers Pools in 1993 and his daughter Ricki-Lee and son Dean both joined their father in the family business. “We mainly concentrate on the construction of new concrete pools in the Brisbane area and surrounds (Toowoomba/Sunshine Coast/Gold Coast),” says Peter. “We specialise in steep sloping blocks, difficult sites and difficult or tight access,” adds Dean Rogers. “We would, on average, hand dig six or seven pools per year and have built pools in excess of 5m out of ground on the more sloping sites. The trickier the better! We will do hand digs, crane in machinery or go through houses with machinery — whatever is required.”

Ricki-Lee meets with potential new clients for a site meeting to discuss design options and what they want to achieve, and then produces a quote. The pool construction is managed by Dean Rogers, who is very hands-on in managing the site. Rogers Pools is a member of Master Builders Qld.

At the heart of this magnificent property is an impressive infinity glass-tiled wet-edge swimming pool and inset spa, built by Kiama Pools. The 11.5m-long pool’s raised position creates a fantastic visual effect and is the centre showpiece of the garden.

The elevation of the rectangular pool forms the fabulous wet-edge tiled feature wall that also doubles as a pool fence. “We created a swimming pool and spa that were the main focal points of the outdoor space,” explain Tim Sprague and Stephen Lloyd, co-owners of Kiama Pools. “As a result, the pool and spa really deliver the ‘wow’ factor in this beautiful property.”

Minimal upkeep is required, with features such as in-floor cleaning and full automation ensuring ease of maintenance, allowing the homeowners plenty of time to relax and enjoy their new swimming pool and spa.

Pool tiles are often an afterthought, however, for this gorgeous pool, the tiles were an integral part of the design and were the very first thing chosen by the couple and architect. “The tiles were selected first and we worked backwards from this,” explains Nick Markogiannakis, managing director of Nemcon Pools. The striking travertine tiles have been used in the pool interior as well as the surroundings. The gaps in the tiles line up perfectly with the home, creating an aesthetically pleasing symmetry. The warm-toned tiles are 400mm x 800mm and work well with the earthy colours on the contemporary-style home.

The tiles were laid onto a Pasco Buzon Pedestal system, which is quite different to traditional paving. A concrete base with draining is set up, then the pavers are fastened to adjustable pedestals. The pavers aren’t glued down and no grout is required, allowing water to drip down through the gaps where grout would normally be. “This allows for far better drainage,” says Nick. “All waterproofing and sealants are also from Pasco”.

The owners of this new home wanted a space where their three school-aged sons could have fun with their friends, as well as something they could grow into as a family. “There is a massive entertaining area that interacts with the alfresco area and the pool. It all works really well together,” says Nick. The pool was a unique design concept that came together through a collaboration between the owners, the architect (John Bornas at Workroom Design), the landscape designer (Brett Robinson at ACRE) and Nemcon Pools. The result is a resort-like escape for the owners to enjoy every day.

The people at Nemcon Pools pride themselves on style, innovation and quality and believe every customer deserves this when it comes to their new pool. “Our relationship with each of our clients will be built on honest communications and integrity,” shares Nick. “We work to our highest potential, delivering extraordinary quality projects across Melbourne and creating an enjoyable building experience.”
