The inspired use of natural stone sets this one-of-a-kind landscape apart.
Eagle Bay resides in Meelup Regional Park, located on Western Australia’s stunning Naturaliste peninsula. This is a spectacular location formed by a long expanse of sandy shoreline interspersed with unique natural rock formations and Eagle Bay claims a picturesque corner of this world that a lucky few call home. It is within these alluring environs that Brett Walsh Landscaping completed its latest award-winning residential landscape.
Surrounded by natural bush, the large, underutilised garden of this private home was in dire need of reimagining. Wanting to create an entertainer’s paradise, the owners of this beautiful abode contracted Brett Walsh Landscaping to complete a garden renovation that enhanced the size and usable area of the landscape in a way that would blend with the surrounding bushscape. At the same time, the owners wanted to maximise the space inside the pool zone and the attached pool pavilion.
The answer to creating cohesion between the garden and the surrounding environment lay within the team’s material choices. Using large natural granite boulders from the local area, Brett Walsh and his team created a harmonious bridge between the two landscapes. Sizeable boulders were pushed back into the hill of the site to organically form retaining walls that terraced and divided the space. Shaped like a natural amphitheatre, the boulder formation provided natural pockets for native plantings and seamlessly led down to a flat grassed area on which a fire pit was placed.
The rock placement in this slice of the garden forms a natural seating zone around the fire pit, while also providing depth and stability to the sloped site. Natural stone steps nestled between the terraced space and the pool fence provide a navigable path through the garden and access to a veggie patch cultivated at the top of the site. The seemingly randomly placed boulder construction continues into the pool zone.
To ensure the space around the pool was more usable, the team pushed the fence boundary back into the bush area. This opened up the space and provided room for them to extend the deck around the pool, resulting in a new cosy lounging area. Behind and above this improved deck sits a spa edged in the same natural stone as the amphitheatre. Nestled into the sloped site, the spa has an enviable view over the pool in front and the boulder-scape to the left.
Of large scale and organically formed, this landscape design used natural stone in its varied forms in clever and creative ways to create an organic masterpiece space that sits comfortably within the natural surroundings, while still providing all the modern amenity the family desired.
And it looks amazing!
