Open plan kitchen space

Before Let’s Talk Kitchens worked its magic on this room it was a confined space that no longer represented the style of the home or the way in which the owners lived

To right this wrong, designer Markus Sawatzki heard the family’s plea for a more accommodating and contemporary kitchen and expanded its parameters to twice its original size, transforming it into a meeting place and a hive of activity.

To achieve this, the meals area was moved to the centre of the kitchen and the daily action now revolves around it. Spotted gum floorboards were selected for the warmth they bring to the space, and to provide a contrast with the neutral colour palette used throughout. Accent doors of timber and glass also add depth and character to the design, while the newly installed Shugg windows were purposefully brought down to bench height for an inviting wash of natural light.

With the larger space came more opportunities for storage and Let’s Talk Kitchens wasted not one. The existing framed corner pantry was removed and replaced with a walk-in pantry featuring an L-shaped workbench and roll-out fittings. And
the extensive use of Blum soft-close drawers — even in the kick space — means there’s no cause for clutter.

When designing and building this kitchen, every detail was carefully considered and all of the clients’ requests incorporated to create a Let’s Talk Kitchens project that has become the hub of the home and will continue to be for countless years to come.
