The old kitchen felt confined and it was undeniably dated with its white colour scheme, timber servery and glass-brick “window”. The bathroom, awash with square white tiles teamed with an old-fashioned tile border, was just as tired.

Rosemount Kitchens was entrusted with designing a new kitchen and bathroom that would be unlike any other. It was imperative the reinvented spaces would reflect the owner’s unique style and personality.

For the kitchen she envisioned black cabinetry and benchtops with copper accents. Mascoma Metal Design was engaged to install the copper splashback and create a copper alcove with LED strip lighting to enhance the shimmer. She also wanted distinctive wallpaper in the pantry and bathroom, which she hand-picked and sourced from overseas.

The black kitchen cabinetry is paired with Dekton porcelain benchtops in the colour Domoos. The effect is moody and mesmerising. In the bathroom, the look is more vibrant with splashes of wild patterning and vivid colour tempered by warming timber touches. The latter includes the vanity and timber-look Polytec Cove 50 profile doors behind which a Euro laundry is hidden. For the flooring, the owner chose the same black-and-white tiles she had used to re-tile her balcony.

On a practical level, the owner wanted to change the footprint of the kitchen, so the timber parquetry flooring needed to be patched, sanded and waxed to accommodate the new layout.

Also, the bathroom had an existing small nib wall that needed to remain, so it was designed to run the length of the room, turning it into a feature.

Ensuring the kitchen would flow seamlessly into the adjoining dining and lounge area was essential. This meant maintaining a consistent aesthetic – and complementing the ocean views. Keeping things streamlined was just as important, hence the sliding-door pantry that conceals benchtop appliances and more. Perfection!
