Heritage buildings tend to demand reverence and when it came to modernising the bathroom spaces of this apartment, located within an iconic converted commercial building on the Brisbane riverfront, both the owners and designers agreed that preserving the historical architecture was paramount.

With that objective front of mind, designers Tobi Farthing and Leonie Barber, of All Bathroom Gear, worked with the existing exposed brick and heritage features, thoughtfully introducing woodgrained vanities, vintage wall sconces and neutral tiles to complement the period character.

With the owners keen to personalise the zones, texture and pattern were carefully included too — in the form of textured wall tiles set behind rounded mirrors, marble-look Caesarstone in White Attica applied to the vanity tops, and a striking geometric wallpaper hung in the powder room.

A custom-built, barn-style shower screen, matt-black Millennium Zoya tapware and streamlined fixtures were used to complete the picture, effortlessly updating the spaces without overwhelming the existing charm and ambience.

The end results — the combined, considered vision of the owners, designers and build team — are stunning, practical, functional zones that spectacularly merge the past and the present, remaining true to the legacy of their location.
