Expert tip: Using marble or stone look porcelain tiles creates the illusion of natural stone without the extra cost and maintenance

“It’s surprising how little time can be spent selecting what is the most important element of a wet area — the tiles. Special attention was paid to this when the homeowners renovated their main bathroom and toilet/laundry, not only to reinvigorate these areas, but to amplify the illusion of space. For the main bathroom, the large, rectangular tiles are mounted lengthways, mimicking the effect of the mosaic feature strip in elongating the walls. This increases the scope of the eye, just as, in the toilet/laundry, the tiled floor is taken up the walls and increases the illusion of floor space. The bathroom floor’s marble-look tiles, combined with the streamlined woodgrain vanity, exude modern sophistication surrounding the spacious luxury of a 12-jet spa bath. In contrast, the toilet/laundry is all about function, with plenty of overhead storage and an easy-clean, contemporary-style toilet suite.”
