Coastal Style Combined with City Chic

An old falling-apart kitchen takes on new life with an elegant modern farmhouse feel that offers a timeless appeal.

Designed by Darcy Zerafa of Better Bathrooms & Kitchens, this revamped cooking zone projects a Hamptons-style luxury reinforced by a classic colour palette.

Navy Blue Shaker cabinets on the peninsula form the foundation of the new kitchen, set off by a high-contrast white frame of upper cabinets and a textured backsplash that really make the space ‘pop’. The use of bright white helped to lift the room and bring in the light, something sorely lacking in the previous kitchen iteration. The open and highly-functional layout further assisted the creation of a sense of space, and truly allows the fixtures and fittings to shine.

A white, fluted fireclay farmhouse sink exudes a real presence in the room. The perfect accompaniment to the Shaker cabinets, underscoring the much desired Hamptons coastal style the homeowners were looking for. Its sense of casual elegance is very much on point, and elegantly offset by a little bling from the brushed brass sink mixer and cabinet hardware.

Introducing a natural vibe with a touch of raw materials is achieved with custom-made Messmate timber shelving tucked into a nook and a top ledge running along the length of the peninsula. Rich and warm, the wood elements in the space add another layer of materiality that enriches the overall design and gives it additional texture.

Topping off this stunning kitchen overhaul is a series of statement pendant lights. Comprised of glass and a satin gold finish that complements the cabinetry hardware, these contemporary fittings exude modern chic but give a subtle nod to the classic style that lies at the heart of this design. Add in a pull-out pantry, Vintec wine fridge and a statement rangehood and you’ve got yourself a functional and attractive space guaranteed to keep these homeowners cooking in style for years to come.
