Whether you’re updating your property or just starting out, a feeling of luxury awaits in your Hamptons home.

By Natalee Bowen

The endless white beaches and iconic shingled homes nestled amongst tall, windswept grass have captured our imagination after appearing in everything from Nancy Meyers films to American TV shows. With their classic, welcoming feel and layers of elegance along America’s East Coast shores, Hamptons homes captivated us. From the moment we saw the blue-and-white interiors in As Good As It Gets, this look drew us in.

Over time, Australians have embraced the Hamptons style as our own. Its appeal is wide-ranging. Open-plan living makes it family-friendly, while the adaptability of the style allows everyone to make it their own. Here in Australia, we love its resort-inspired, laid-back family vibe, which has enticed many generations. This design blends classic charm with a touch of personal fl air, allowing everyone to put their own mark on it. We’ve wholeheartedly embraced this look, layering our homes with curated beauty, a keen eye for bookshelves and, admittedly, an abundance of blue-and-white accents and cushions.

The term “Hamptons” has become a buzz word, evoking an instant feeling of luxury. Its popularity began more than a decade ago, particularly in Queensland, where many coastal homes reflected this look long before we called it “Hamptons style”.

The term “Hamptons” has become a buzz word, evoking an instant feeling of luxury.

As people became more curious about it, the look transformed from just a design style into a lifestyle and home aesthetic that capture hearts across Australia.

Now, Australian Hamptons style has taken on its own life, with homeowners incorporating influences from coastal, country and modern aesthetics to create a style that’s truly ours. Our dream homes are now admired worldwide. I remember clients once struggling to explain this vision to their designers and builders, but today, with terminology like “wall sconce”, “dado rail” and “newel post” now common, the style has become mainstream. Any builder without a Hamptons-inspired design option risks feeling out of touch.

For those who adore the Hamptons look, it offers a beautiful way to build a lifestyle around your home. And if you’re new to the style, there’s so much to enjoy as you dive into discovering your own version of it. Next up is the “transitional modern” trend – a fresh interpretation of the Hamptons style that we’re excited to explore with you.

Whether you’re just beginning or ready to update your Hamptons home, there’s a timeless quality to this aesthetic that can carry you through every season of life, ensuring you have a home that feels like your forever sanctuary.
