Leading interior architect Gerard Faivre puts his signature spin on an apartment in Paris’ Golden Triangle

Using the City of Light as a never-ending beam of inspiration, Gerard Faivre calls on the necessities of Parisian style to convert uninspiring spaces into homes that brim with character and charm. Located in an iconic Haussmannian building established in 1860, the apartment takes up the majority of the fourth floor and makes the most of views featuring the American Cathedral and the luxury residence of couturier Leonard, too. Sitting on the iconic Avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie, the residence has always attracted a prestigious clientele, and from

the restored luxe interiors to the attention to detail, it’s obvious why.

To preserve the original character of the historic space, Gerard employed artists to restore all of the mouldings using gold and silver foil. The timber parquetry flooring was also refurbished along with the marble fireplaces that blend warmth with sophistication. The apartment also features Italian handmade rugs throughout, adding an element of richness and heritage to the design. Working by the belief that every home should have its very own grand entrance, Gerard has redesigned each space to ensure it has its own space and freedom — typical of Italian mansions of the 18th century. Comprising four bedrooms, each has a unique style along with a private bathroom and dressing room. The master bedroom is the true standout of the apartment. Spacious in size, it also features a living area, fireplace and library along with a steam bath for relaxation.

The open nature of the apartment adds to its appeal. Full of light and exuding an atmosphere of luxury, each piece was deliberately chosen to reflect the glamorous nature of Parisian style balanced with the notion of space and airiness. The living room’s plush Chesterfield sofas surround the marble fireplace. A large gold-framed mirror and oversized floor lamp play on the dimensions of the space, adding a quirky element to an otherwise classic and contemporary room.

The finishes of this apartment are of note —gold features heavily in door handles, mouldings and cornices. Recalling the style of French homes hundreds of years ago, the presence of gold sets the high-end atmosphere of the entire apartment, complementing the subtle use of colours throughout. Plush textures also play a role in the apartment’s design aesthetic, with furry cushions and cosy throws adding warmth.

Hitting all the right notes when it comes to creating a quintessentially French abode, Gerard has once again crafted an apartment that is not only beautiful to look at, but full of accents alluding to the design heritage of Paris.
