Island Dreaming For Your Kitchen

A kitchen island is the beating heart of a kitchen.

Buzzing with the sizzling sounds of cooking, chatter and laughter as friends and family gather, an island bench provides a comfortable space to prepare and cook delicious meals.

Accordingly, this feature requires special planning to complement the surrounding kitchen joinery and act as its own unique focal point.

This period-style home embraces traditional features and soft neutrals for a soothing and welcoming ambience. The island bench is crafted from solid American oak using traditional joinery techniques. Utilising mortise and tenon joints, as well as hand-cut dovetailed drawers and custom-made pewter hardware, the visible details are reminiscent of a rustic country cottage. Inviting mint green was applied in an authentic, hand-painted finish to complement the barn pendant lighting. This colour ties the unit to the kitchen surround and adds a burst of freshness.

The island interior maintains the beautiful natural-finish American oak to complement the custom-made distressed Herringbone parquet flooring to add warmth to the overall space. An ILVE flushline gas cooktop inset into the stunning Volakas marble benchtop with honed finish makes for a striking look. With the hobs accessible at the front edge of the benchtop, cooking is made easier while the saved bench space is allocated to a bar seating area.

Clever integration of modern appliances, such as the microwave and rangehood control panel, help maintain the charm of a country kitchen while increasing functionality with modern appliances. Harp Furniture’s specialisation in period details and finishes, including lime-based stucco, gilt work woodcarving and custom handles, as well as the ingenious Cabiseal fitting, make a timeless kitchen accessible today.
