How far infrared heating works
Direct heat transfer
Unlike standard radiators that heat the air, Herschel panels emit Far Infrared (long-wave) radiation. This energy travels through the air until it hits a solid object (a person, wall or piece of furniture), where it is absorbed and converted into heat.
Thermal mass heating
By directly warming the walls, floor and ceiling, the panels turn the entire room into a “360° radiator”. This thermal mass stores the heat and releases it slowly, allowing the panel to switch off once the room reaches the target temperature.
Efficiency
Because air is a poor conductor of heat, bypassing it reduces energy waste. This can result in energy savings of up to 37 per cent compared to convection heaters.
