Originally a small, pokey kitchen that was dominated by dark mission-brown cabinetry, laminated benchtops and a complete lack of storage, this renovation by Queensland-based renovator, Kitchens U Build, set out to completely transform both the functionality and feel of the space.

The brief from the homeowner was clear: create a bright, light-filled kitchen that would offer improved workflow, increased storage and a stronger connection to the rest of the home. To achieve this, the existing kitchen and adjoining dining room were combined, effectively doubling the available footprint and unlocking new opportunities for layout and design. Additionally, bright, white tones dominate the space, breathing much-needed fresh air into the room.

By rethinking the floor plan, the updated space can store many more items and has a far more workable bench space that makes the room much more practical. But it’s more than just the initial footprint change. Smart cabinetry solutions ensure everything has its place, reducing clutter on the bench.

One of the smarter elements of the build came when the renovator reimagined an underutilised window in the former dining area. Rather than leaving it as an awkward feature, it was transformed into a doorway, seamlessly connecting the interior to the outdoor pool area. This simple yet impactful change strengthens the relationship between inside and out, bringing natural light into the space while improving the home’s functionality.

The end product is a cohesive, functional environment that feels both open and inviting. What was once a disconnected and inefficient layout is now a well-resolved kitchen that brings the home together, balancing practicality with a fresh, modern aesthetic designed for the way the homeowners live today.
