A need for the homeowner to feel safe and have ease of movement in their kitchen was the mission for this renovation.

The homeowner lives with a disability and required an accessible kitchen that enables independent living but one that wasn’t lacking in style. Balancing functionality and aesthetics, the result is a space that not only meets practical needs, but also uplifts spirits and enhances quality of life.
The kitchen layout was designed to optimise workflow and reduce the need for excessive reaching with strategic placement of key elements like the sink, cooktop and refrigerator. Accessibility was achieved by installing lower countertops and wider pathways to accommodate mobility aids. Easily accessible cabinets were also an important addition.
Adaptive equipment, such as the mobile island bench, pull-out shelves and sensor activated rangehood and faucet, merge seamlessly with the design. Slip-resistant flooring, soft-edge countertop edges and generous set-down areas prioritise safety. Contrasting colours, timber grains and lightstone benchtops offer a contemporary look to the kitchen.
