With the 2017 Annual Cabinet Makers and Designers Association (CMDA) awards just weeks away, the Complete Home team thought it would be a great opportunity to look back at some of 2016’s stunning award-winning kitchens and celebrate the outstanding work of these industry professionals and their custom designs

Here are just 5 of our absolute favourites from last year’s awards:

1. Best Kitchen $35,000 to $60,000 – COS Interiors Pty Ltd

This fantastic Melbourne cabinet group took a new modern twist on this kitchen’s original warehouse setting, while still retaining the original feel of the space. V-groove two pack cabinetry and a Carrara marble benchtop and splashback create a refined industrial look, perfectly complemented by concrete floors and exposed brick walls.

2. Best Outdoor/Alfresco Project – Individual Design and Construction

Taking things outside, this bar and barbecue area use recycled timber with Brushed textured Indian Black Granite benchtops to provide a rustic feel to the space, with careful and precise craftsmanship clearly visible in grain matched mitred edges and cleverly placed shadow lines. From the kitchen’s initial design, the length of the timber used was intentional to ensure a matching grain across the entire area’s joinery. A rugged appearance constructed with durable materials will help to ensure that even though the space is exposed to the elements, the alfresco area will continue to look good timelessly.

3. Best Kitchen $20,000 to $35,000 – COS Interiors Pty Ltd

This modern gourmet kitchen proves that big things can come in small packages – or a smaller space anyway. An architecturally designed modern kitchen, the featured Neolith benchtop stretches out to a central courtyard while solid timber shelves and ECO natural veneer give a light and Scandi-style feel to the overall space. Two-pack grey matt cupboards were incorporated into the design, as well as Blum products for all internal hardware and drawer systems.

4. Best Contemporary Kitchen – Individual Design and Construction

This kitchen aimed for a minimalist design, with cabinet fittings cleverly concealed as push to open mechanisms, while recycled timber in a matching kitchen island and floating shelves give the space a warm and inviting feel. The recycled timber mimics the country-style vibe of the adjoining alfresco area, making this space a perfect fit within the home.

As ceiling height was limited, the designers decided to use a coffered bulkhead while removing overhead cabinets to reduce the appearance of a lack of height in the room.

Recycled bridge beams, brushed Indian Black Granite, Carrara Marble, black gloss acrylic, soft grey thermoformed doors and mirrored splashbacks all come together in this contemporary country kitchen to produce what is truly a minimalist masterpiece.

5. Best Traditional Kitchen – de Wacht Cabinets & Design Pty Ltd

The epitome of Hamptons-style kitchen design, this kitchen was designed for entertaining – with a large island bench perfect for family gatherings. With a classy coastal look featuring cup-pull handles, Two large Pull-out Pantries, Pull- out Oils, Twin integrated bins with Soft -close Drawers and Doors. V-grooved panelling and profiled doors are finished off with subtle subway tiles, with shuttered windows providing the ideal finishing touch.
