Queensland designer Katia Slogrove of Germancraft Cabinets has won more than just the coveted title of KBDi Australian Designer of the Year 2017

At the recent Designers Institute’s annual awards, she claimed four trophies and a $2,500 prize package, the multi-award winning designer achieving a long-term dream of receiving this acclaimed award. Her creation; a genuine art-deco kitchen, was applauded as a ‘bold and beautiful’ solution that overcame many of the challenges to this room. Slogrove completely reconfigured the space in the house to make way for this stunning kitchen, showcasing the expansive views from this hilltop home and factoring in the client’s requests for in-kitchen seating and ample storage. Undoubtedly, the centrepiece of this glamorous design is the New York Marble in the island bench, the backlit surface highlighted by the polished gold laminate details and smoky purple backdrop. The designer’s response to the brief was audacious and confident, exercising her skill in utilising beautiful materials and combining them with fervent colours. The exquisite design shouts extravagance and sophistication, pleasing not only her client, but KBDi’s panel of renowned judges.
