“The homeowners came to us with a brief to design a functional interpretation of the original kitchen, but with a very modern twist. Corner display shelves hark back to the earlier era of the home. They act as bookends to the overhead and under-bench cupboards and are perfect as display niches for recipe books.

The red-painted ceiling and feature pendants hint at the owners’ preferred cuisine. They do a lot of Asian-style cooking, so the benchtops and finishes were selected for easy maintenance and durability.

The dark Schock Stone sink by Abey has an extremely hard, scratch-resistant surface and is a dramatic contrast to the essastone Bone White benchtops.

The island features solid waterfall ends and horizontal timber-grain laminate. This detail is repeated in the overhead cupboards in the kitchen and butler’s pantry. Pantry cupboards are tucked under the stairs and we adjusted the bench height to suit the owner.”
