At first glance, the impact of the design freedom offered by Staron® Solid Surfaces in this kitchen renovation may not be obvious, but closer inspection reveals its positive influence.

In many kitchen renovations, particularly in older homes, the placement of the kitchen sink in front of a window was a common practice. Not only did it offer a picturesque view while washing dishes, but it also provided a convenient vantage point to keep an eye on the backyard activities, especially with children around. However, it appears that the significance of a kitchen window has somewhat diminished in many modern designs, perhaps overshadowed by the prevalence of dishwashers. Nonetheless, it remains an excellent source of ventilation, particularly in a bustling area of the home.

However, despite the benefits of the kitchen window, its placement requires careful consideration during renovations. In this kitchen Staron in Terrazzo Venezia has been used as the benchtop and splashback, creating a cohesive visual appeal throughout. Taking advantage of the joining capabilities of Staron Solid Surfaces the seamless bench and splashback flow nicely to the back of the cooking zone around to the window in line with the overhead cabinets.  Continuing under the window Staron flows neatly passed the sill to create a nice subtle shelf detail and all joins have been eliminated, thanks to the unique joining capabilities of solid surface.

A notable addition to the space is the introduction of a movable island unit, featuring a curved design on one side, allowing friends and family to move freely around it. Its placement against the indigo-coloured cabinets makes it a striking focal point and provides a delightful dining area adjacent to the kitchen.

When the cabinets are open it reveals an excellent storage facility and handy hiding spot for the many varied items that end up accumulating around the kitchen.  Terrazzo Venezia proves a very versatile colour complementing the deep cabinet colour, warm floor tiles and pops of timber. When the doors are closed the Terrazzo Venezia creates a nice detail junction between the top and lower cabinet adding a refined touch to the overall design.

By eliminating all  joins within the benchtop and splashbacks, the kitchen surfaces are not only aesthetically pleasing but also incredibly easy to clean and maintain. Being a silica free surface, the ability to rejuvenate Staron ensures that even after many years, the benchtops can be refreshed for continued use in the kitchen or repurposed for the creation of new applications.
