“The homeowners requested a design that would allow the kitchen to function as a living area and workspace. The room was initially a U-shape with three solid walls. We opened the rear wall up with double doors − allowing the kitchen to be complemented by the colours of the garden, while bringing the natural light inside and allowing better use of and access to the outdoor space. This was the real hallelujah moment, which completely transformed the kitchen and the way it was used. The homeowners wanted to blur the lines between a kitchen and in-built furniture − something integrated and understated that blended into the space, yet with strong impact. The kitchen is sleek and streamlined with matching doors, benchtops and splashbacks. All the white surfaces are perfectly matched − we took the Hi-Macs Arctic White from the benchtop and splashback and had our paint colour-matched, ensuring the doors and panels blend beautifully. Benchtops are flush-mounted with the doors and panels, which strengthened the integration. The thick veneer frames the kitchen and provides just enough difference to break the white. Clever use of functional hardware has resulted in a huge amount of storage. This kitchen is an excellent example of what can be created with homeowners who were excited to think outside the square and approach their kitchen from a new angle. Their kitchen has changed the way they use their entire home.” Designer: Rob Turner for Alby Turner & Son Kitchens

EXPERT TIP: Match your doors, benchtops and splashbacks for consistency.

WE LOVE: The flush benchtops create a streamlined finish.
