Once outdated, rundown and lacking functional flow, the original kitchen offered little more than frustration. The owners faced a poor layout with minimal bench space and limited storage, leaving everyday tasks feeling unnecessarily difficult. Their brief to designer Tracie Platz was clear: they wanted a modern, refreshed space that delivered better function, more usable storage and an overall sense of calm organisation.
A proper bin system was also high on the priority list. With a defined budget in place, the renovation needed to balance contemporary styling with economical product choices, ensuring the finished kitchen felt considered without being costly.
Kitchens U Build brought this vision to life with a thoughtful reworking of the layout and a focus on clean lines. One of the most impactful design decisions was the removal of an angled pantry that previously disrupted the flow of the room. In its place, Tracie introduced a streamlined full-height pantry fitted with internal drawers. This small shift created a far more efficient storage zone and established a clearer visual rhythm along the wall.
The palette centres on Melamine Classic White Matt cabinetry, chosen for its crisp yet soft appearance. Paired with bevel handleless joinery, the cabinetry reads as smooth and uninterrupted, allowing the room to feel more expansive.
The simplicity of the detailing supports the modern direction while maintaining a sense of warmth and everyday practicality.
Laminated benchtops were selected to meet budget requirements, yet their subtle finish anchors the design with a contemporary tone. The result is a cohesive blend of durability and style that suits the homeowners’ needs without compromise.
Functionality sits at the heart of the new layout. The introduction of internal pantry drawers, improved bench spans and refined storage planning has created a space that works intuitively. The dedicated bin storage, once missing entirely, now integrates seamlessly into the cabinetry and supports the efficient flow the owners hoped for.
What was once a tired and restrictive kitchen is now a bright, organised and modern environment. Through smart use of economical materials, streamlined planning and a restrained palette, Tracie Platz and Kitchens U Build have delivered a space that transforms daily living.
