While Oscar was constantly inspired by the natural beauty of Australian and exotic timbers, Melanie had her creative eye set on architecture and interior design. It is this combination that provides the basis for their passion. a natural foundation Having travelled extensively over the years through Europe, Asia and North America and seeing the development of these nations and the transformations in design over time has provided invaluable inspiration for Melanie’s and Oscar’s furniture designs. The furniture is actually named based on the city that correlates to the inspiration of each particular piece. “We are inspired by simple designs, which are elegant, unadorned and timeless with graceful lines,” says Melanie. The foundation for their ideas, however, comes from somewhere a little closer to home. “The inspiration comes from the significance of family and an understanding of how we live today with our son Odin.” All Pfohl Furniture pieces are designed for minimal waste and are made from renewable plantation timbers. The furniture incorporates quality cabinet fittings and is finished with hard-wearing German engineering hardwax oil. The hardwax oil has a clear satin-matt finish, which retains the timber’s natural appearance and feel while the surface becomes hardwearing and protected. Not only do Oscar and Melanie create from the heart, they create timber furniture that is simultaneously beautiful and practical for everyday living.
