High-quality materials and a clever design have made this much-needed kitchen renovation a complete success
It would be an understatement to say that this kitchen, before the renovation, used to be rundown and impractical. Only one hotplate on the cooktop worked, there was very little storage (no overhead cupboards or pantry), difficult-to-access corner units and a rusted, stained double-bowl sink.
The open-plan design of the room creates a flow between the kitchen and the rest of the living areas. An island bench creates the open design while plenty of natural light streams through the windows.
The granite benchtop is one of the most important elements of this kitchen’s design. Complete with Marquardt-specific components — an undermounted sink, an induction hob and grooves carved into the solid granite bench — its high-quality, precision manufacture in Germany ensures it will be durable and serve its owners well into the future. The colour, Kenia Black, contrasts well with the different elements used in the kitchen’s design — timber, stainless steel, aluminium and tiles — to create a striking effect.
Multiple ingenious storage facilities have been integrated in the kitchen. All drawers, doors and pullouts have been fitted with a soft-closing mechanism from Hettich Hardware. This will lessen the wear and tear on the kitchen cupboards while providing a silent, effortless action.
A magic corner unit has been installed, which has turned a hard-to-reach area into an easily accessible storage space. Magic corner units let nothing hide at the back of the cupboard. The shelves glide and shift around the corner so that any items at the back of the cupboard are equally accessible as those at the front.
