A light-filled pool renovation brings contemporary elegance to a prized setting
Perched high above the tranquil waters of the Georges River, this beautifully reimagined swimming pool captures the essence of relaxed waterfront living without the intensity of Sydney’s harbour bustle. Known affectionately as River View, the Oatley property enjoys leafy surrounds, uninterrupted water vistas and a sense of calm that set the tone for a thoughtful and refined pool renovation.
The homeowners approached Artesian Pools with a clear vision: to modernise an existing pool that no longer reflected the home’s setting or their lifestyle. While the pool’s original terracotta coping and dated finishes had served their time, the structure itself offered excellent bones — particularly its generous proportions and distinctive B-shaped form. With strong communication and decisive planning from the outset, the renovation progressed smoothly and efficiently.
Rather than imposing a rigidly modern geometry, Artesian Pools embraced the pool’s curved form, striking a balance between traditional shaping and contemporary detailing. Measuring approximately 12m x 5m, the in-ground concrete pool now features a generous step entry connected to a bench seat by a central platform — an arrangement that feels both luxurious and practical, allowing multiple swimmers to enter comfortably or simply sit and enjoy the water.
A crisp, light colour palette was key to the transformation. Ash Marblano porcelain coping and matching pavers from The Pool Tile Company create a seamless surround, visually expanding the pool area and amplifying the sense of space. Within the pool, Ezarri Niebla tiles deliver a soft, elegant water tone that reflects the river beyond, changing subtly throughout the day as light moves across the surface.
Frameless glass fencing ensures uninterrupted views to the water, capitalising on the property’s elevated position and reinforcing the feeling that the pool is floating above the landscape. By day, the pool sparkles against blue skies and greenery; by night, discreet Aqua-Quip white QC retro lights provide gentle illumination, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere.
Functionality in this project was just as important as aesthetics. A Dolphin M700 robotic cleaner and a Naked Pool Freshwater System deliver low-maintenance performance with minimal chemical use, while a custom-built pool equipment filter box keeps services neatly concealed. The result is a pool that is as easy to live with as it is visually striking.

Artesian Pools was founded and is still operated by Eusebio “Zeb” Rodrigues, a licensed builder who has a passion for building, pushing artistic and design boundaries and achieving flawless finishes. This year will be the company’s 30th year in business.
