Functional beauty

The design brief for this project was to create a unique, inviting space that functioned well but didn’t require a lot of maintenance

“With owners who love to cook and work in real estate, the finishes had to be both aesthetically pleasing and incredibly high performance. I began by selecting the most used surface in the kitchen: the benchtop. Staron® Solid Surfaces offers a durable, non-porous material with no open joins, and we selected the shade Mosaic Dalmatian for its exclusive look and feel. Aside from the unique pattern, the owners loved the smooth, monolithic finish and surface’s soft, forgiving nature. Flooring, cabinetry and wall colours were selected to complement the benchtop, and the thoroughly modern colour palette connects beautifully with the living room. To further tie together the two spaces, I used Staron® in Sanded Chestnut for the servery, which was included both to add interest and hide the sink area from view. The cabinetry is a warm grey veneer, which is a gorgeous complement to the benchtop. The overall space is warm and harmonious, an example of open-plan design at its best.”
