Georgian-style kitchen bliss

This Georgian-style kitchen maintains the best of its original features while adding a contemporary feel through clever cabinetry

“This kitchen renovation is in a three-storey mansion on acreage which has a very grand old American feel to it. This style is continued in the kitchen, which also has Georgian elements such as the detail in the mouldings and an Art Deco black and white colour scheme with Shaker-style doors.

The client was keen to introduce the diamond pattern somewhere, so that the kitchen would have an original element going back to years gone by when attention to detail and decorative features were standard. We’ve kept it subtle by using it on just the upper glass doors and below the casual seating booth.

Integrating modern stainless-steel appliances such as the double-door fridge as well as a bar fridge under the island was crucial to creating an authentic-looking older-style kitchen. The cooking area with vintage-style stove and brick-tiled splash back is the focal point of the kitchen while behind that wall we have hidden a pantry with shallow open shelving and scullery.

The booth seating area adds an original and personal element to the space. Together with the stools at the island, it also provides another casual seating and dining option.”
