If you’re dreaming of a garden that looks polished, modern and effortlessly stylish, steel edging might just be your new best friend.

From tidy borders to bold raised planters, steel has become a go-to for landscape designers who want clean lines, strong structure and serious design flexibility.

Whether you’re sprucing up a courtyard or creating layers in a sprawling backyard, steel edging gives you the freedom to define spaces, play with height and bring form to your outdoor fantasy.

Steel edging doesn’t just look great; it’s strong, long-lasting and low-maintenance. To top it off, ShapeScaper products are made in Australia using premium BlueScope steel. The range includes several gauges to suit different applications, with the 2.0mm gauge being ideal for most landscaping needs and significantly thicker than many imported products.

Compared to timber, which deteriorates, or plastic, which becomes brittle, modular steel edging provides long-term durability and is significantly quicker to install than the conventional flat steel plate systems.

When it came to designing, ease of installation was one of the biggest considerations — designed to be installed with no specialist tools or on-site welding required. Each panel comes pre-drilled for easy alignment, with all the necessary fasteners and fittings included in the kit.

ShapeScaper products all feature smooth, rounded surfaces and a neat safety lip that hides the anchoring stakes. That means no sharp edges and no surprise injuries, making it ideal for public spaces, family gardens and anywhere safety is a priority.

ShapeScaper’s Redor® weathering steel develops a beautiful, earthy patina over time, similar to corten steel. This protects the steel and gives your garden a warm, organic look. It typically stabilises within 6–18 months, with regular rainfall or watering helping to speed up the process.

The rust patina initially forms as a fine powder, sticking to the surface, however sometimes leaching can occur early on, when water exposure is too heavy. This should be taken into consideration especially around light paving or porous materials. This leaching is harmless but care is needed around sensitive surfaces or aquatic environments.

ShapeScaper planters are safe for vegies and herbs with no liners or treatment needed. But if you want to extend the life of your planter, a waterproof liner or internal coating is a good option.

The steel edging is flexible enough to shape by hand on-site, with profile heights up to 185mm bending into tight curves or angles without a fuss. While taller profiles up to 590mm are still shapable into gentle curves, they may need more planning or alternatively you can take advantage of ShapeScaper’s custom fabrication service for made-to-measure shapes.

No job is too big or too small, with quotes being supplied directly from site plans if needed.
